Hello,
The studies have proven that the synthetic drug maronol (fake marijuana) has been directly linked to people and mental health issues.
BUT plain old marijuana does not have the same effects.
A lot of people over use. They either think it is cool or whatever. Living in a world of fog and not reality I think is a mental disorder all in itself.
Of course for some being on high doses of marijuana is perfectly fine for them and they function just fine. Not everyone is the same on it.
Some people you can not tell they use for there eyes do not get red they do not get loopy and they function just fine.
Others use to much and get the giggles.
They eat, which is one thing people do take it for. Eating or "getting the munchies" takes the effect of the thc away. Which causes one to need more.
People self medicate with marijuana for it has been found to be a safe drug. Others are legal to use it through there state because of proven medical problems.
I do not believe in taking any drug in big quantities for one gets either used to it and needs more, or the body gets used to it needing more. With marijuana it is mentally needing more. Plus I have found out many people think it is cool to use a lot. It is some kind of "I can do better then you" thing. Do not understand that myself.
Anyhoo qualifications I have, I use it when I have to for medical problems that my state allows me too. I hate taking any kind of drug....I just found marijuana to be the safest for me. Of course after trying other medications from my doctors for years. i have never been a illegal "pot" smoker.
If it ever goes back to being illegal in my state I will have to go back to the pills and all the side effects of them.
Hope this helps

It would be difficult to extrapolate on this because I don't think anyone knows the answer. As a die-hard pot smoker, I have obtained both a B.A and M.A. Curiously my masters is in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Even I cannot answer you question, however I can tell you that smoking pot has not invaded my active learning process that I am aware of.
Perhaps I would hold a Ph.D. by this time; yet that was not one of my objectives. I believe that marijuana is a natural plant and has advantages aside from the obvious "high" that one exhibits from partaking in such. I believe the effects are mild, categorically sound and are not long lasting.
I do not believe that marijuana is habitual and think it is a relaxant. I also believe that it would effectively take the place of some prescription drugs that may be otherwise harmful due to side effects. I am not aware of any side effects of marijuana as are known from some other drugs.
As far as the brain is considered, since we only use a fraction of it, it would seem logical that smoking pot would make little difference in that regard.

Most of the people answering your question have no idea what theyre talking about. So, heres the truth. Alcohol destroys your brain cells, hurts your liver, and may cause other damages to your body. Marijuana on the other hand, does not harm your brain at all. Someone else on here said it contains the chemical "dopamine". It doesnt. The chemical in marijuana that gets you high is called THC (TetraHydraCannabinol). When you eat or smoke pot, the THC goes into your system, travels to the brain, and once there, it connects with specials cells in your brain called Cannabinoid Receptors. It lands on the receptors and lightly coats them, which in effect sort of tickles them, releasing endorphins in your brain and getting you high. There is absolutely no damage caused to your brain by pot. The only damage you can do to yourself with pot is by smoking it. Because smoking anything isnt the best thing in the world. However, if you use a bong (water pipe) 50% of the carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals) are removed from the smoke. So thats much safer. Also, if you get or build a vaporiser, which just releases the THC by heating the plant, but produces no smoke, its completely safe. If you eat it, again its completely safe. So to answer your question. Alcohol causes far more damage in general than does pot. Hope that helps you. Peace

I have smoked weed daily for the past 17 years so I suppose I am quite well qualified to answer this one! Firstly I have yet to see any conclusive evidence that weed kills brain cells, this is just a piece of propaganda that people like to use when they are in fact completely ignorant about what they are saying.Personally my short term memory is not great but then it never was, so I make sure I write down everything I have to do and rarely actually forget anything! As for intelligence I have an IQ of 130 which is not bad but I do lack common sense sometimes (thats just me though not the weed!) I have been in a stable long term relationship for 16 years and have two children of 7 and 3 who are happy, healthy and bright (my eldest is classed as academically gifted with a reading age of 13 at 7 years old!) I have a good social life, plenty of friends and a nice home. I really don't think your 'friend' is doing himself any harm although weed doesn't suit everybody. as long as he is sensible and doesn't get totally wasted every day he should be fine.

Pretty much nil.
As an experienced stoner, I would honestly say that I haven't had any negative side effects. I have not had memory loss, nor do I get "munchies".
Maybe I'm just weird, but weed foods have helped my anxiety disorder by helping me relax and concentrate. Since I started smoking in high school, my grades have progressively gotten better, since I wasn't wasting class freaking out about the people around me.
I am now a full-time college student with two years left toward my BA, and I work a part-time job at a book store. I don't smoke weed anymore because I had developed a nasty case of bronchitis and came upon a great cookbook, "The Marijuana Chef" by S. T. Oner (nice name, huh?). Try it in food! It's a great spice, and also makes excellent tea in the morning.
So... do you think my brain has been negatively affected? ;)

You've been lied to!

* Pot is not a road hazard
* Weed doesn't kill braincells
* Ganja helps fight cancer
* You can't overdose on pot
* The Bible says it is ok
* Weed doesn't cause crime
* Marijuana is not addictive
* Wanting to get high is normal
Minors should never get stoned
That one's a given

From what I hear, weed is no more detrimental than alchohol in terms of brain cells destroyed. Do a search on it, you will get tons of information on it. Personally, I'd rather be drunk any day over being high.

short term memory loss.
im chronic, and i can't remember anyhting. typical stoner stereotype, but everyone is different i suppose.. other than that, it's actually not at all harmful.
if you think you can get lung cancer, guess again.
and if you are afraid of smoking it, eat it. and your body will feel a LOT better.
