Plasma -- Panasonic

LCD -- Sony.

I fix them and these have the best track record in the REAL WORLD....

Which means I don't see them very much.....and the ones I do see are covered by the warranty.

I kind of have to agree with Tech Man.

Plasma - Pioneer seems to be the best and most reliable

LCD - Sony. Been making them for years, solid and reliable

In the last year, Sharp Aquos has been getting some good reviews for their LCD televisions. Since they are trying harder, the prices are a good bit lower than Sony.

HOWEVER: I just had a service guy come out to replace the bulb on my TV and I tried to pick his brain about which technology or makes/models had problems or were reliable.

He refused to comment, but when pressed he did offer a suggestion: Do not buy a high-end TV. Buy a low-to-mid range unit and plan to replace it in 3 years to keep up with the changes.

It was just his opinion - but it does make you think.
