hello....i am a nurse, if the pain is that terrible he may need to see a doctor and get something for the pain, ibuprofen can help ( i had lower back surgery 2 years ago) heating pad of course will help him, you could try massaging his back if he will let you, sometimes the pain is too unbearable for that. a hot shower or bath( if he will take one) my B/F had bad back one day and i actually got him in the bathtub..it feels better for a short time, but some relief is good. hope this helps, and if he needs to work a back support might help that wraps around him to keep the lower back straight. Rest is very helpful but i understand your situation. if you think he will be mean about you trying to help...tell him you talked to a nurse here and please try these things, they will help you!

Aubrey, you sound like an Angel! Obviously, your b/f is in serious pain and not handling it well emotionally (he's probably very scared by it!). You are an Angel for still wanting to help him - he is very lucky to have you!
First, be very careful with the over the counter pain drugs (tylenol, advil, motrin, aleve, etc.). People do not realize the danger they present when taken to excess - and people in terrible pain will take them to excess, hoping for relief that usually does not happen).
The best, most effective, and safest acute pain treatment for a musculoskeletal injury (e.g. back injury) is cryotherapy - ice.
If you do not have an icepack designed for this purpose, use a large bag of frozen vegetables - peas or corn work best. Place the 'icepack' inside a thin pillowcase cover and apply it directly to the area of pain (on the skin). If you are doing this correctly, the 'patient' will go through a series of discomforts including burning, stinging, pins and needles, and then anesthesia.
Apply the icepack for 20 minute intervals with 60 minutes between applications (this allows for return of healing blood flow and prevents frostbite).
Hopefully, the icepack with provide significant short-term relief. However, it is critically important to realize that something is WRONG - pain is the messenger the body uses to tell the brain something is wrong. Therefore, as soon as possible he should have a thorough professional examination to determine the cause of the pain.
As a Chiropractor, I am biased toward Chiropractic as the first line of care. Whatever profession you choose, a thorough and proper physical/spinal examination (NOT just a bunch of Xrays, MRIs, etc.) is a must.
Best wishes and good luck.

I roll up right into a gigantic ball of distress and self-pity and conceal clear of any individual else for worry of snapping at them and becoming a whole b**ch!! I endure from power ache within the curb again - have had it for years. I attempt to hold cellphone and whether it is without doubt imperative, I will take an anti-inflamatory. Otherwise, I take an over-the-counter again capsule to be able to paintings. When I cross dwelling, I smoke a few natural comfort and soak in a high-quality hot bathtub with epsom salts or baking soda. And then move slowly into mattress with a well publication and a heating pad. Whatever it takes, however I do not love to take prescription medications or any sort of ache killer at any time when viable. ((Sending hugs - I want I would wave a magic wand and make you suppose greater - tons of affection!!)

Take an old sock
fill it 2/3 with rice. (yes cooking rice)
Microwave it on high for 45 sec. to 1 min. It will act a very warm heat pack.
When it cools down just heat it up again. Use it about 3 times per hour for about 10 mins.
If it is muscle pain it will help.

Pain is the real *****. I have a spinal injury and let me tell you thee are times when I don't want to be around anybody or want anyone around me.
Try the heating pad
Aleve is the best over the counter med I know of.
Ice packs may also help if it is a soft tissue injury.
Try to be supportive but understand that if he is in a lot of pain he may say things he really doesn't mean.
Tell him to be thankful he has a woman that cares. But wait until his back feels better.
Good luck T

You can start out with getting him to a doctor, then some pain relief. That's what he needs. then rest, lot's of bed rest. I lay on the floor with my feet on the sofa and a pillow under my knees, if it gets bad sometimes a fruit jar filled with ice helps on the spot.
He's going to definitely need a doctor, a neurosurgeon or a orthopedic surgeon, Lot's of X-Rays and MRI's

using ice and seeing if you can go to the doctor and get naproxen or something of the sort....they should also give him a lower back brace that will take the weight off of him when he is standing...its best to get one from a doctor, but you can get them from some of the larger drug stores.

If he yelled at me like that I'd get him a frying pan on the head!
Don't excuse behavior like that for any reason, there is no excuse for that.
Just let him be, stop trying to help him after that horrible outburst.
