Ok, I'm not a Christian, I am a Muslim, but isn't Christmas the Christians holiday? So why should any store or business be afraid of saying "Merry Christmas"? I don't know a single Muslim who finds this offensive. All of the ones I know take it as a greeting and either say it back or say "same to you". And in support of my Christian friends here on Answers and 360 (Multiply as well), I want to wish you a Merry Christmas. I enjoy seeing the houses decorated with the lights and stuff. My family has a tradition of going to Candy Cane Lane here in my city (blocks and blocks of houses intricately decorated, a tourist site here). They give out candy canes and hot cocoa to whoever comes (they walk it to your vehicle).
Why do some find it so offensive? Who cares if others don't believe. If you don't, simply don't say it. This Muslim woman has no problem saying it.
Merry Christmas to you.

Merry Christmas! I'm not Muslim however, I have studied Islam for several years. Muslims believe that Jesus was a Prophet. So, since Christmas celebrates his birth then why should saying Merry Christmas be a problem? I'm not religious but I find Islam very interesting. It's interesting that the Quran talks about scientific facts that the people of that time could not have known about. I respect the Islamic faith and we should all try to understand each other better.

The reason why they want to take away 'Merry Christmas' and make it a 'Happy Holiday' is so they can make it a holiday for everyone in hopes of making more money because money is what it's all about in the minds of the greedy.
Christmas used to be about Jesus and treating everyone as Jesus did when he walked the earth in human form and celebrating His birthday.
Now it's all about making money and exploiting the sacred Christian Holiday as much as possible in order to achieve the maximum profit from sales.
I won't be celebrating Christmas the way most people do instead I'm going to thank Jesus for His birth and for His sacrifice and I may do something special for someone less fortunate than myself in hopes of making their life a little easier.
Happy birthday Jesus and Merry Christmas everyone!
God bless you my friend and may peace and joy be with you always!

I don't know why anyone finds it offensive. Even if you don't celebrate it, it is actually a legal holiday in the U.S. No one seems to mind getting the day off of work...
And if I was wished happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or Ramadan by anyone, I wouldn't be offended either, I would just return the sentiment.
Oh by the way, Merry Christmas.

Thank you, and same to you. I don't understand why some feel offended either. Do they have to go home, grab the Kleenex, and have a good cry because they are so offended? Are NON-Americans offended that Americans celebrate Independence Day...the 4th. of July? I doubt it. I'm not offended by the Greenland Independence day and I doubt that these those offended with Christmas are either. I think they are just looking for an excuse to trouble some people.

Good for you--that's the American way. You say what you want. Either is fine. There is a faction of christians that are saying they're being stopped from saying "Merry Christmas"--it's the biggest bunch of bull they've ever imagined.
Thank you. Merry Christmas to you too!
EDIT: And "Faith" certainly doesn't represent most Americans--ignore the ignorant.

I still, to this day, have NO idea why saying "Merry Christmas" is so offensive. It's all this 'politically correct' crap going around in society today; heaven forbid you say something 'politically INcorrect' today! I say Merry Christmas anyway! If someone is offended, I just say "Oh well! It's my right to freedom of speech - and that includes saying "MERRY CHRISTMAS"! :D
Merry Christmas to you!

I'm an atheist and do not take offense to the Merry Christmas thing. I personally say happy holidays because it's more accurate, Jews, pegans, and others celebrate around the same time.

I think that businesses do have the legal right under US law to display various religious messages and holiday greetings. I am not certain that the right extends to proselytisation, of course. And government-related entities cannot have anything religious on their premises. In schools, only students may initiate religious activities. I am not sure if this could extend to causing others to participate, such as a prayer at the beginning of the day or as part of a team huddle. I personally would find such things offensive and tantamount to government-sponsored evangelisaiton. That''s just my opinion, though. I do not find it offensive to see holiday greetings in ordinary businesses.
