A doctor started me on thyroid medication and something else that is an antidepressant. I actually started to feel better and now a friend I haven't seen for a long time shows up and starts mixing up margaritas and kamikazes. I don't want to sound ungrateful so I just keep drinking them. I skipped doses because of daily drinking of both medications and now feel really warped and screwed up. Like I said, don't want to sound like a jerk because he pays for them after all.

What do you expect us to tell you?

Needless to say, it's a bad idea.

Remember it is a lot easier to say "No thank you," than it is to pay for an ambulance ride and a stay in the ER.

Antidepressants tend to make the effects of alcohol poisoning far worse. Whereas mixing alcohol with thyroid medications, or antidepressants, runs a big risk of liver damage.

If you want any better advice than that, you need to talk to your doctor.

Feeling screwed up is the "salad" outcome of mixing alcohol, antidepressant, and thyroid medication.

Mixing antidepressants and alcohol can make the medication become ineffective in treating depression. Alcohol acts a DEPRESSANT and could counteract effects of ANTIDEPRESSANT medication and lessen its benefits.

The side effects from BOTH ALCOHOL & ANTIDEPRESSANT medication could also worsen. BOTH could cause drowsiness, and mixing the two can make you sleepy.

On the other hand, THYROID MEDICATIONS like levothyroxine- (Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, others) or
guanethidine- (Ismelin ) have slight STIMULATORY effect that can make a difficulty in sleeping. As you see, it counteracts the effects (and side effects) of alcohol and antidepressant. More salad effects if you also take caffeine or if you smoke.

Try to avoid alcohol while on that prescribed medication. Be grateful to yourself first before being grateful to others.

I have drank with antidepressants. You feel like crap because you didnt take them. I and others I know have not had any adverse reaction with them. Just dont drink alot and see how it affects you.
