The problem with this question is that the native American Indians knew nothing about the Bible and yet they believed in the existence of a "Creator-God" of some sort. So, unfortunately, to believe in the existence of god it is not necessary to have any knowledge about, or exposure to, the bible. So there's something else that explains the need for humans to make sense out of the "strange" phenomena they experience: mythological superstitions that make them feel safe.

Thought about this-nothing. There are plenty of books (and movies) that instruct how to interpret it. But being told how to interpret the Buy-bull is what led to the Crusades and the
Inquisition.
Intelligent design/'Look around you/in a mirror'-I say, look at the disabled or the severely handicapped. Why do some look like Christie Brinkley but others look like Roseanne Bar? Why are some as smart as Stephen Hawking while others can't even graduate HS? Why must forests burn to make good soil for new trees? Why are there diseases? If God is all-knowing, why did he say 'It is good' after he made the world and everything that inhabits it if people are going to PO him or make him angry time and time again? If there is an individual creator deity, why are females and groups needed to form life and cultures? When there's an individual male ruler, it seems to often turn to a dictatorship.
Even if ancient writings aren't 100% accurate, I do believe they have some insight for us. The stories are very interesting...especially since we've had so much held back from us. I would suggest taking a world religion class. Should be fun.

If you disregard The Bible (and other ancient writings) What evidence is there to support the existence of God?

A very thoughtful and needed question.
The evidence would first exist with the universe and the nature of the universe. Questioning the existence of the universe may lead you to conclude that it has always existed in its present form or that it may have a beginning. The nature of the universe will lead to the conclusion that the universe will end due to the 2nd law of thermodynamics. As the entropy of the universe continues to increase, heat death comes closer. The nature of the universe in terms of the complexity of all or parts of it and the simplicity of what we do understand about it may lead to some awe. Complexity of and in the universe may also lead to something similar to intelligent design.

If all writings are excluded then I am assuming that there is no historical record to use either. So, I am only left with present social, political and religious systems. The very religious nature of man for millions of gods implies that the nature of man seeks out for pagan gods as well as a real true God.

The existence of good and evil and the ability to call things or events as either good or evil suggests that there is a common system of behavior that all men should follow. Yet, how is a concious viable in an evolutionary world of random purposeless acts for ones own survivial above that of all others. The need for and the ability to construct legal systems implies that our nature seeks order out of the evolutionary chaos. Yet it is also easy to show that human nature will lead us to break any system of rules we create for ourselves.

The search for the perfect in what we do may also be an indicator that something or someone really perfect exists and is the goal and cause of our existence. The need for unconditional love in relationships may also lead to a similar conclusion of an unconditional love personality beyond the realm of this universe.

There is more to this discussion that is not coming to mind now. Yet I am sure, like the discussion on Mars Hill, that evidences for God can be made without using texts of any sort to support the debate.

One thing: Phoenix, that was very cool. You're very polite and a good sport. Just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean you have to hate them.

Anyway. My answer:

Science.

Do your research.

Having everything add up?

Oh man...you've gotta see "A Case for Christ" (I think that's what it's called. It's by...Lee Strobel[?]). Man, you HAVE to check it out. It's hard to not believe in at least SOMETHING created us.

Science is modern, especially this. Did you know the Darwinian theory DISPROVED itself? Rather amusing, actually.

Dead serious, though, science. Like, exampli gratia, the moon? Being exactly the right size to balance the tilt of earth? The flagellum of a cell, a motor which could not be created over time because it would not work that way? How complex the human body is? Have you ever contemplated the eye? How impossible is it that this all worked out?

The chance of something like this world happening by chance is the same as going into outer space, out by Jupiter, and throwing a dart at the earth, hitting the 1/6 inch center of a bullseye on a small rowboat. Yeah, I'm not kidding.

There is a lot of evidence. Any little bit of research will show you that God is real and the Bible is 100% true. I remember watching a documentary called the search for the real Mt. Sinai. What it did was follow the path that Moses led the Egyptians. In the movie, they found the true mountain, which has been renamed, and in the Bible where it says that Moses poked a stick against a rock and water came out, there actually WAS a poke hole in one of the rocks. Also, when Moses went up to the top to get the Ten Commandments, lightning struck the top of the mountain and it still has char marks on it to this day. You should really check that movie out. It goes through that whole story. For me, watching that documentary strengthened my faith, and it might to you also.

There is no premise here concerning the character or qualifications of "God". Convincing, previously unencountered information that the source under consideration provides that turns out, upon reflection and investigation, to be realistic and well-founded, might be a rationale for concluding positively as to the existence of what is called 'God'. Consider the fictional case of the situation of "Joan of Arcadia" or any number of those who are provided with special 'insider' information that can be confirmed and, in addition, used to benefit the recipient.

God is synonymous with Perfection, an existence that is Perfect. Perfect is a concept that we can not understand as we are imperfect (a fact). So we know that there is a Perfection which we call, for lack of a better word, God or the Perfect Being, Thing, Him, It, or any reference that our imperfect language may choose, but this entity is Perfect. If Perfection is possible to do ( for a lack of a better verb) anything, He and His behavior is enveloped in mystery. All creation had to start somewhere. At some point nothing existed, if this Perfect entity encompassed nothing, then He is capable of creating something from nothing. So He does exist ( for lack of a better verb) Perfect, veiled in mystery to us, and infinite, because Perfection has not error, no beginning and no end. As a matter of fact, we can not know Him, only awe Him and His creation.

First off, I'd like to say that I really liked Phoenix's answer. He was very polite.

Outside of the Bible (and in my case, the Book of Mormon because I am LDS/Mormon) there is no solid, scientific proof God exists. But my own personal experiences are proof enough for me that God is real. I know that's probably not a good enough reason for a lot of people, but it's enough for me.

Okay, I have a suggestion. When it's warm weather where you are, go out on a walk. Don't just look at the flowers, trees, leaves, animals, but really study them. Ask God to show you things and He will show you things. God is a genious; people just don't realize it because they don't pay attention to Him thru prayer. The bible says that the things in the world that God has made show us that He exists. God Bless.

Let me ask you a similar question. What evidence is there to disprove it? Your question asks us to throw out the text book (Bible) and to disregard history. I guess I could offer reading the Dead Sea Scrolls. I could say that all nature and all life shows the hand of God. There are very many Church's, so there must be something to it. I guess you could attribute it to faith.
