Absolutely. It's tbe best thing I've ever done, besides marrying my wife.
To those who don't know if it's a good idea because of the war, please don't join, stay home, and the rest of us who know what the point of service is will take care of you.

I joined the Army not sure what I was doing and despite being deployed to OEF and sacrificing some freedoms, it was the best decision I could have made. I learned a lot, got great schooling, and money for college. I grew as a person and I have gained experience as a nurse - that a civilian hospital couldn't provide because the injuries were not nearly as complicated.
I highly recommend joining the service, but do your research and decide what is best for you. Mostly it will depend on the job you want. Don't let anyone tell you that one branch is better than the other. Depending on the job you want will determine what branch will give you the better training. Each branch has it's pros and cons.

it depends on the person. it's good for some people, not for others. generally, i think it is harder to join the older you are. you are more set in your ways and it is hard to take some of the things that go on, including the fact that most of the people in charge of you will be almost 10 yrs younger than you. think hard about it and decide if you are a military type of person or not. i don't know your personal situation, the military can be good for getting out of a jam - you could always try the shortest tour possible first, you can always extend later.

I think it is a great choice. Do a lot of research into all the services and, if you talk to a recruiter, get all promises in writing. Above all, stand firm with your decisions and don't be swayed by the recruiter.

Depends what you value and what you hope to accomplish. It's a great thing for a lot of people --and the worst decision others will ever make.
What about the military appeals to you?

Don't ask us, decide for yourself. What are your goals? What do you believe in? How do you feel about your country? How do you feel about the military? War? What is your motivation in asking? Everyone is different, you have to look inside yourself and ask that question.

I would...however you need to weight all your options and make sure you really want to do it. Check all the branches and talk to the different recruiters.
I would suggest looking at www.military.com for information as well to see if the military is right for you.
