Miracles are "well, wasn't that lucky" incidents or "gosh, I can't seem to explain it, but it was good" occurrences. Turns out God had something to do with 'em! Anything bad happens, God had nothing to do with it. That's the way it always seems to work. God gets the credit for random "good" things and is apparently nowhere to be found in the case of random "bad" things.
And leave it to the religious and their rose colored glasses to be entirely unable to recognize senseless carnage for what it is.

I think that the only "miracles" were the ones that were said to have been performed by Jesus in the Bible, such as walking on water, laying on of hands, loaves and fishes, turning water into wine, etc...(and perhaps the one on 34th street). These were things that Jesus did to prove his identity as the Messiah. I have not seen or heard of evidence of any of these things or anything else that would fit into this category since Jesus' time. So unless the children rose up into the air or walked across the water to get to the ice before they were returned home, then no, it is not a miracle, it is just something to be thankful for.
Also, something else that is interesting here; Jesus pointed out to his disciples in the Bible that anyone who actually got it and who's faith was of the right kind could do all of these things that he was doing, yet no one ever has...What does that tell us?

Laws of nature are inferred from empirical evidence. Thus if an accepted law of nature ever appeared to have been violated, it could simply be that the accepted law was an erroneous inference from an insufficient set of empirical observations, rather than a supernatural disruption of the true course of nature.
Take for example the force of gravity. The layman's term is "what goes up must come down." If I were to drop a ball from a 3 story building, and somebody on the ground level catches the ball, did they defy the laws of gravity? No. They interfered with the law of gravity. In that sense, the same can be applied to miracles. It is not the defiance of the forces of nature, rather it is the inturruption of it.

If a bus not crashing through ice is a miracle, then a bus crashing through the ice is also a miracle. Sometimes ice breaks, sometimes it doesn't. Just like any event. Wouldn't life be boring if everything were predictable?

Neither of those would necessarily constitute a miracle. Neither would necessarily call for direct Divine intervention.
By the way - is there another way to drown besides "to death"?

'Miracle' is one of the most overused words today. I'ts just when you get good odds in your favor, because it's probability that it will happen eventualy, and saying 'Miracle' allows religious people to back up their silly ideas.
"This casserolle came out so well!, it's a miracle!" "There IS a God!"

When a hail Mary pass is completed, that's a miracle. Everything else comes under the heading "**** happens".
