The original story is this - that all gods of all cultures were ETs. Pure and simple.
The God of the Bible - was such an ET, who wanted worshipping (was after power and control over the people) - he appeared to be a God - being a giant and lived to a couple of thousand years. I believe he was killed off by his son, who took over his office. I don't know the exact story afterwards - but it is probable that when he died - no one was left to fill the space/office. And so, the priests kept the legend alive by making up the myths about God - after all, it gives them the power and control now... and that is how it has been since.
Note - how the God of the Old Testament is different -he was 'physical' and seen - by the time of the New Testament, he wasn't really seen at all...
Also note - how God appeared differently to Mohammed, being more reclusive, and not being seen by others...
You have the same kind of situation with the South American cultures - where it was the God that wanted human sacrifce - and the priests carried out this ritual.
And so you have variations on this theme...
God never existed, in what people think of God today.
Because it is an amalgation of the different concepts and influences. I think this is the only way to explain about 'God' in a logical and sensible way - given our own history.
Note - how certain things in the Bible can be described in terms of UFOs, etc.
eg. The Star of Bethlehem being a UFO - because a 'star' can never lead men to a specific geographic location, but a flying object high overhead can.

Two quotes summarize my opinion. One is a footnote in the New Scofield Reference Bible (Oxford University Press, 1967) at Genesis 1:1, "The Bible begins with God, not with philosophical arguments for His existence". The second, from Dr. Oliver B. Greene on his "The Gospel Hour" radio program, date I don't recall, "When the beginning began, God was already there".
I appeal to this Scripture, John 1:1, as a basis for my understanding, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". Logically if two things are stated to exist at the same time, they must exist at the same time unless there is undeniable evidence to the contrary. If you can accept, for the sake of discussion, this verse as a basis, okay; if not, or if you simply want to discuss your own opinions with no regard for others, then we have nothing further to discuss.

I don't have to answer that question, not because it doesn't matter, but because I don't know. As a Christian, I get the information I need to make it through this temporal existence and when I make it to heaven, all my questions will be answered. That is what faith is all about. That is what humility is all about. That is what honesty is all about. That is what Christianity is all about. Being confident that even though I do not have all of the answers, I know I will have them and the answers I have will come from a source that can not be disputed. That source will not cause division. That source will not be filled with lies (added in edit) - and sprinkled with the truth.
And - even if I am wrong and there is no God and we are all just worm food - I know that I will have lived a life with honesty, humility, and patterned my life after One who is worthy of following.

Every society and culture has used 'God' to describe their existence and the worlds existence in one way or another, whether it's the Egyptians 'Ra', the Greek 'Zeus', or modern Christians 'Jesus'. So to me, God came from our imaginations and inability to understand the world. But luckily we know allot more now and are finally beginning to break free and embrace rational thought lol :)

Instead of assuming that god exists and then wondering how he appeared, I make the assumption that he doesn't exist.
