How to cook. And I don't mean instant anything, I mean real, from scratch, never looking at a recipe, kind of cooking, that tastes really really good? I remember my mothers cooking, oh yeah!

I notice someone is thumbsdowning all the answers where they learned from their mother. What are you a partycrasher?

the kitchen in our house was like a sacred meeting place. i learned everything from apple pie to chicken pot pie. i also learned italian food, yes, pizza dough & pasta from scratch. mexican food, including home-made tortillas. caribbean food, chinese food. my mom has an amazing palette. there is no conversation without food in her house. And she is the smallest most adorable woman on Earth!

Yeah I learned from watching my mother and she never followed a recipe and now I'm the same way .The only bad part is when someone asks me for the recipe to a special dish I don't know how to tell them the amounts .

I learned from watching my mom cook and she would let me do a family dinner once in awhile on my own...oh my goodness some of the horrible things they had to eat when I got to cook (LOL)!! I now love to cook and get my 13 year old daughter to help me and she now makes homemade pasta, apple turnovers, etc. She is actually a pretty good cook especially for her age.

I learned a little bit from my mom. But I learned a lot from my aunts. My mom's oldest sister helped to raise me and I learned quite a bit from her. I learned mainly casseroles (did I spell that right?) and deserts. It was really great. I love to make home made cookies. And cheese potato casserole. MMMM.....I can also cook healthier stuff-thanks to my sister. I can really make great chicken and veggie stir fry.

I always watched my mom. I remember standing on tippy-toe to see the bowl on the top of the counter as my mom mixed cake batter. I had to climb on a chair and kneel on it to stick my finger in the batter- it was sooo yummy!
I learned to follow a recipe in middle school in Home Economics.
Now I use both methods...I read recipes and change them for my self adding and changing as I see fit.

My mom cooked great meals, but she didn't want to teach me. She didn't teach me to cook, or clean up, or keep house ... she wanted to do it all herself. When I got married, she gave me a cookbook with all her recipes in it. I learned the hard way, trial and error on my own.

Most guys make females nag, by way of being egocentric I'm afraid that guys and females are very distinct and sure females have the nagging factor and so much guys have the lazy factor good in the case of house responsibilities

I learned from watching and helping my mom in the kitchen. My 5 year-old stood on a chair and helped me make cookies earlier this evening.

Mine did. And then I lived in Europe for a year and learned to experiment with more exotic things, many of which my poor husband doesn't care for, like duck and lamb. Oh well. He likes my 'comfort food' dishes a lot.

I learned from my grandmother. I'm a classic "dumper" when it comes to recipies--I know how much a dash or a pinch is without measuring.
I had to teach my husband it as well--he now can follow my cryptic recipes!
