I'm kinda in a disconcernment time (not offically actually) for entering the religious life (nun). I'm a junior in college and pretty strong in my faith. Sometimes there is no doubt in my mind at all about becoming a nun, I love it and am so peacfull at the thought. Sometimes I don't think I will at all. When I think I wont I'm as peacfull at mind. Lately, when I 'know' I will be I also have the confident feeling as to which type of ministry I will be working in.

Is this normal for disconcernment?

I have a sister who is a nun, and she went through the exact same thing you're describing. This a big step to take in ones life, and it will defiantly effect ones life greatly. I'd advise you to think about it more. I also recommend the autobiography of St. Teresa, this is the main source that inspired my sister to enter the religious life. Sorry if I couldn't help you much, I'm an atheist...=)...

You need to discern your own reasons for desiring to enter the religious life. What are they? Is the glory of God your sole motive? Or do you desire your own peace?

Something we all need to remember is that grace is nonsensoral. The graced soul may affect the body, but we do not have direct access to our souls in the same way that we do our mind. Inner peace is therefore often unconnected with our purpose or calling. Just ask Mother Theresa about that.

I very much recommend St. John of the Cross' "Dark Night of the Soul," which you can read here:

Read it and apply its teaching as much as is applicable to your secular life. This will help you discern your calling.

In Christ,
Del

Of course this is normal.....As with any career or life altering decision. The only thing that you have to consider is your overall happiness. Take a realistic, responsible, and mature analysis, and think about your future and the deep dedicated service that you are about to embark.

I tend to think so. That decision is never an easy one. I personally see it as a calling for you. I suggest you not only continue to pray over this, but pay some visits to those religious orders that may appeal to you. They will more than welcome you and can answer your questions. It's really only a question of which one appeals to you. Go for it. God love you.

I would pray and ask God to show you without a doubt what you are suppose to do with your life. He knows what is best and where you would be happy.

Or you could go to Bible college and find one studying the ministry and be a ministers wife.

Why would a person deprive themselves of the greatest mental, physical, and spiritual pleasure a human can ever have, and lock themselves up in a belief in a being that doesn't exist?

Don't do it.
