It is around 37-40 degrees farenheit outside at night. I've tried letting my german shepherd inside to sleep at night because it's pretty cold out but he just scratches at the door so I'll let him back outside. He just likes to sleep outside! Is it okay for him to do so?

Well if you have a dogsicle in the morning you know it was too cold. JK. Make sure your dog has a place to get out of the weather, such as a well insulated dog house that is off the ground. Or build a doggie door.

Any dog, with adequate shelter, will be ok outside. Mine have a doghouse, on the patio...under a roof, and have a large "dog pillow" to cuddle up on/in. They're perfectly happy. Just be sure he has a GOOD doghouse, and give him good meals (to help his metabolism keep him warm) and always make sure he has fresh (not frozen) water. Hope this helps.....Good luck.........

They have pretty thick coats, I have one and even colder temps don't seem to bother her...though, she sleeps inside.

If that's what your dog prefers let it unless it's raining or snowing. Next time you have a vet appointment mention it and see if it's a problem.
