Dude, what would you be doing with that extra time if you already finished loading your own truck? You are paid by the hour, not production. Don't like it, quit.

Every single job I've ever had I've pulled other people's loads and do you know what happened at every single job? They begged me for management, because not only was I one of the best employees they had but I could influence the other workers, which increased production, which increased profit.

Edit:

Oh yeah, the chances of getting fired is 100% if unloading and loading trucks is in your job description. You are getting paid for what you do, so I don't understand why belly ache.

You are very lucky to have a job with UPS.

Don't be so scared to work and earn your pay check, by staying active doing something your shift will go by much faster and don't think your boss is not watching for he may or even have some one else watching. It will only help you in the future to get a better promotion or a recommendation for your next job.
Too many people are working harder at avoiding there job than just getting at it and doing it.
Jobs are hard to come by now days and there is a lot of others that would be happy to have your job, so stick it out.

Good luck

Well if its peak season and you are in a seniority postion then they probably can't afford to lose you. Tell them respectfully that you will do all you need to maintain your position now however your life does no revolve around the UPS company and they are pushing you beyond your limit. I'm sure if you are experience and already have seniority, worst comes to worse, you stuck up for yourself and they did fire you, theres always positions open around this time. Otherwise stick it out and deal with it. Maybe you should just go to school to open your own business, be your own boss, and then you won't get pushed around like this! Tell those other people to load their own trucks! Everyone needs to pull their own weight here!
Oh and I must add after reading the others...if you are 18 and have already recieved "seniority" you might feel special but they will fire you. Unfortunatley in this country and job that doesn't require a degree can easily find someone to replace you. I've heard it tons of times before. "Everyone is replaceable." Sad, but true. Good luck with whatever you do.

You were hired to work loading your truck and any other as directer by your supervisor, if that is to much to ask of you, then do what is best for you and the Company and quit, So they can hire someone who is willing to do an honest days work.!

then you complain that employers ,do not hire lazy Americans, that price themselves and whine themselves out of a job, This is a good example.

Do you have other obligations or responsibilities? 2am to 8am sounds very grueling, but if you need the income, then you should stay. The rush season, unfortunately, is only half-way through; if you can make it past the 25th, then everything will return to normal. I doubt that you will be fired for refusing to work extra hours daily, but if you do, it is a great opportunity to be noticed and promotions (or the UPS equivalent) will follow. I'm 17 now and I stay up until 1am everyday finishing up school work, I treasure sleep very much. So, I admire your perseverence and fortitude. Stay strong. Or, tell them to f*** themselves. Life is what you make of it.

Just do it if they ask you and don't complain. The busy season won't last very long anyway and you need this job and the money. There are seasons to be busy and to be slow and this will all even out. Keep a low profile at work and people will notice your willingness and eventually it could lead to promotions and references that will open doors for you. Don't start your life with trying to get out of stuff because you will end up hurting yourself in the long run..This is the best advise anyone could possibly give you for your great future! Don't be like everyone else. Set yourself at a higher standard even if it feels like you are having to do more work.. Higher ups will notice that you are working harder and you will get credit for it because your supervisors will notice and they will all talk about who is stepping up and who isn't....It's not like you will suffer or die from extra work. Just do it and set yourself apart from all the other lazy people.good luck

Yes, it's possible to get fired for that -- especially during the Christmas season. However, they probably will mark it in your record and wait until December 26th to actually fire you. Once upon a time I was part time at Fedex. My 6 hour day became a 12 hour day for the 2 weeks until Christmas every year. Just a fact of life in that particular line of work.

How bad do you need a job? At this time it is a company's market, there are more people then jobs. If you have another job lined up then quit but remember you are building a resume. Some companies are looking for people who stay with a job. Here I am telling you how to live your life but there is only one who know what to do, it's you!!!

Be a team player, take the initiative, and do the extra work during the rush season. It'll be over soon. Your bosses want people who they can count on during the busy times. Don't ask yourself, "can I get fired"? Instead, ask "How can I help the team and advance"? Don't burn bridges - you may want to work there next year. If not, you could certainly use them for a recommendation for another job. If not, you still should never burn your bridges. Trust me!

Yes. That's part of your job. I'm sure other employees are also doing more work than usual. Besides, this will make you look like a hardworker and move up in the business. Good luck!
