Instead of bathing the dog often, you would be better off brushing it. Unless he/she has rolled in summat unsavoury! My Jack Russell is bathed only when absolutely necessary as it is not natural. They like a swim so if u live near water, let him.

I never bath my dogs, unless they have been rolling in something really foul and I have to hose them down or send them for a swim in the river. I'm not sure why a very short coated dog like a JRT would need bathing very often at all. I am fostering one at the moment and I know he won't be going in the bath any time soon!

Baths, with shampoo, will dry out your dog's skin and can cause problems related with that.

If you are not showing your dog or have any other reason for keeping your dog -clean- there is no point in actually giving your dog a bath too often.

If he gets muddy or unsavory, just wash him down with a hose, no shampoo...

Grooming is far more important. Giving him a good brush will remove most dirt marks once the muck is dry as well as giving him a massage and oiling his hair - all of which is beneficial - unlike baths.

More than once a month is a bit much. Every 3 days is completely insane and totally unnecessary. Your dog's skin will be irritated by overwashing - of course, noone should have to live with a stinky dog, but keep the baths to a minimum. Good luck!

My Jack Russel hasn't been bathed for the last four and a half years and she's doing great.

Bathing is not necessary for dogs. brushing will remove dirt fom the coat, but keep him familiar with the idea of a bath every 6 months so he doesn't forget the experience or he may kick off if you do need to bathe him.

Dog Bathing the fun way. Once a month take dog to river, throw in stick. Coat dog with suitable shampoo, throw in stick again. Dry dog thoroughly. No wet house or owner and one happy, well exercised clean dog.

No more than once every month, because they have some kind of oil on their skin and if you wash them too much they can get skin problems. I know that you want to give them a bath all the time though, they shed a lot.(my mom has one).lol
