I have one in 223 for my kids and it shoots great. They are very accurate the only issue is the trigger. Not nearly as crisp as a bolt action. Howevery for the price a great gun that you will not mind dropping or scratching and will kill a deer as far away as you shoud be shooting.

The best gun is one you like, are not afraid to shoot or scratch, and you can afford.

If I'm going to shoot a modern high-pressure centre-fire cartridge like the .308, I want a bolt with at least two big fat locking lugs between my face and the chamber. I'm not saying the break-open is unsafe - if it weren't safe, T/C would be out of business along with NEF - but still I worry about everything holding together, including the stock lug, which if I'm not mistaken is merely soldered to the barrel.

I have found the New England Firearms to be a pretty good buy. The are not bad at all. I have several, with interchangeable barrels. I had a roll up nylon case made for 3 of them, which carries the stock/receiver in one slot, and a .22 lr barrel, a 20 gauge barrel and a .308 barrel all rolled up into a tight bundle, one of these is in the trunk of my car, and one is behind the seat of my truck as part of my emergency kit that I always carry.

You should be able to get one for around $200.00. It would be hard to beat the value-for-dollar of these guns, and given proper care, they will last a long time. They are also suprisingly accurate.
