Yes, holidays, especially Christmas, causes additional stress. Most people deal with stress by drinking, eating, spending, arguing. Unfortunate but true. I think we learn as children to have unreal expectations for the holiday; begins with Santa bringing what we want. Sets up expectations that never quite go away even when we are grown.(now don't go thinking I didn't do Santa. I do and love the jolly old guy LOL)
Any time there are expectations there is the possibility of disappointment, letdown, emptiness.
I'm pretty lucky. At holidays my family always gets along. Not the rest of the year but for the holidays they behave well and at least fake affection.

These things do happen, but they dont just happen at Christmas time. I think we set ourselves up for disappointment during the holidays. Everything around us tells us we're supposed to be happy. When we arent, we're disappointed and can get depressed. Try to remember the real meaning of Christmas and focus on that. All of the other things, the tree and the presents dont make us happy. What's inside us and how we think is what makes the difference. Gear down on the materialistic things and see if that helps make it a better season.

We have twisted Christmas into Hallmark Holiday. We no longer celebrate the meaning, but the ideal that is set forth through television, and media. I believe that if we don't live up to these expectations, that we feel that we are lives are incomplete. Oh well...

Yes, it happens. Much to all often and it's a shame but that's what happens these days. It's become too commercial and people often forget about the baby whose birthday they should be celebrating.

Sadly, yes, that does happen. Hopefully not to the majority of people, but most likely to many.
