I was never forced and I can't imagine why a parent would impose something like that on their kid. Several years ago when I was a hairdresser a woman came in to get her son's hair cut. I didn't cut it. I would have refused. She wanted a military style cut and this kid was just SO upset about that. She made the comment when he gets 18 he can decide for himself how he wants his hair. I thought to myself, 'Lady, this boy will be doing ANYTHING he wants within the next couple years.' If she was going to be so rigid about something as personal as a haircut the boy is going to rebel big time. When it comes to something like hair parents need to get a clue. Why fight about it? As long as they shampoo and have good personal hygiene let your child show their individuality I felt like walking over and cutting off a big chunk of her hair.

I had my first perm at age 6...I don't think there is anything more cruel! I looked sooo 80's, I had the poofy hair triangle thing on top, and straight full bangs. That wasn't the end...I had 2 more perms during my youth, and one "melrose place" inspired short haircut that caused me to scream for 45 mins in the salon-and I was a very well behaved kid!

As a little girl, my mom always made me get bangs with long hair. Often times it looked rediculous. I always wanted a short bob without the bangs, but my mom never went for it. No, it wasn't a punishment, she was just trying to save me from a "bad hair cut", which ended up backfiring.

I remember my friend in 3rd grade... she did something bad at home... and one day had long hair down her back and the next a really short, hideous bob. Her hair was wavy and poofed out everywhere!
But right now my parents aren't letting me get my haircut... its down to my chest and I want to cut off 10 inches and donate it. I've never had short hair and my parents aren't too happy with the idea.
Its hair, though. It grows back!

Oh, God, yes. My hair has always been very fine and stick straight, so it doesn't do much. Just hangs there. So when I was little, like in elementary school, I had this terrible bowl cut. Everyone thought I was a boy!

When I was really young my Mom wouldn't let me have hair long enough to get knots in. She said when I decided I wanted to brush it I could grow it out. At age 5 that's what I did! xD
Still hated how she did that.

i used to have a pony tail foot long. i wanted to take 5 inches off it and get it layered. my mom instead had them take off 10 inches from my ponytail. it wasnt even layered. i cried so bad because it was too short for me and it looked like i had dog ears. ma thought it would 'keep the hair from tangling' i still wont let her come with her to get my hair cut.

Actually, my parents would've never done that. Now, they've prevented me from getting looks I wanted... which I definitely thank them for now.
