muffins are a quickbread which can be baked in a loaf pan for similar results. cupcakes are cake. the biggest difference is in the amount of sugar and the texture, but it is a very fine line. ya know what, a cupcake is prolly just a muffin with icing on it.

muffins are somewhat healthier than cupcakes. cupcakes have way more sugar than muffins... they also have icing on them.
