I am retired Air Force. I knew several airmen and officers who were gay, both male and female. This was before don't ask don't tell. Back then it was a crime to be gay in the military. I found that the gay people I knew, some of who worked for me, did outstanding work. I never thought about bringing charges up on anyone for their sexual orientation.
I have sat on Courts Martial Boards and have thrown people out of the Air Force for being slackers and malcontents. If I had it all to do over again. I still would not have turned in a gay. But the Courts Marital Boards I sat on, I would have voted for stronger sentences. All in all they did get time at Fort Leavenworth making big rocks into small rocks.

22 years on active duty and only knew of 3 gays, 2 of which were female. All three were dismissed from the military.
As it should be. Sorry but the gay lifestyle does not fit into the military.
So you have a gay male and he is openly gay, when and where does he shower? Do you force the other males to shower with him? Do you give him his own personal shower time?
Sorry it just doesn't work.

I've never been extremely homophobic, although gay men kind of creep me out, but it didn't cause me to question them or their skills at all. I actually have two best girlfriends who are in the Army and they happen to be dating each other. I feel that as long as that gay soldier (male or female) can do their job, why not? Live and let live...

A guy in my barracks was gay.
They made sure he had a room to himself, no one else wanted to share a room with him.
He ended up stabbing a friend, who was in his room, after he made a pass at the guy and the guy turned him down.
He is in Fort Leavenworth now.
No one cares if someone is gay, and everyone knows who the gay people are.
But then again, no one wants to share a barracks room with a gay person either.
And thats the biggest problem for openly gay people .
Where and how do you billet them ?
Since straight people, do not want to share a barracks room with them.
Would be no different than putting a man and a women in the same Barracks room, and no one thinks we should do that.

Its spectacular the style you spot the media blow up the only genuine turn-flop that Obama has had, yet provide McCain a bypass on the massive quantities of turn flops he has had. when you consider that whilst did McCain even vote on FISA? Oh wait, he did no longer. McCain's too busy campaigning to vote on FISA, the recent GI bill (which he grew to become into against even nevertheless he's taking credit for it), the recent medicare bill.... the checklist is going on. McCain's turn-flops are that he grew to become into against the Bush tax cuts on the commencing up and now could be for them, he grew to become into against offshore drilling and now for it, elevating/ slashing protection spending, privatizing social risk-free practices etc... there is many subject concerns besides FISA, i do no longer basically like the FISA bill yet there is numerous greater subject concerns which will make me vote for Obama over McCain.

No! That's why it's "Don't Ask / Don't Tell".
