Whenever herds of unwanted cattle gather around my door, I duct tape a flashlight to the end of my walking staff. I turn on the flashlight, then gently nudge the alpha cow on the nose with it, saying "Bzzzt! in a perky manner. The alpha cow generally acts in a mildly startled manner and can be easily turned away, leading the rest of the herd away from the azaleas.

A cattle prod is a capacitive discharge circuit with a high-voltage output. As the other answerer mentioned, a flashlight would not really be suitable as a starting point.

Take a couple of basic courses in electricity and electronics to get an idea of how to design a device like this. In the meantime, the cattle will just have to come when you call.

A flashlight really doesn't have all the parts you'd need. Basically a cattle prod is a high voltage step up transformer, with a multivibrator to pulse the power from the battery. If you had a TV, car battery, and the proper type of doorbell, though, you could do it:)

If your looking for a weapon. Do what I do.
Since I always lose flashlights I carry an AK-47
and 3 grenades.

You couldn't get on an airplane with that flashlight anyway!
