Defining moments?

January 28, 1986, my 16th birthday and the day the of Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion.. I learned that the world can come crashing down around you in the time it takes to walk from one class to another.. I learned a lot about myself and where my priorities lay...

Oct 30, 1987, the day my oldest daughter was born... I went from being a free wheeling teenager to a parent, I learned that I was not the most important person in the world.. It was both pleasant and exciting while at the same time being terrifying and overwhelming...

Those 2 days for me stick out as the days that I learned the most in the shortest amount of time. Both days I learned something about myself as well as the world around me... Both days were filled with excitement as well as fear...

When I was 18 and just starting college, before really getting deeply into my classes I had to meet with my adviser. When I went there for that first meeting, he told me outright that he was not going to waste his time on me because being female I had no business trying to be an engineer. He said I should go home and get married and have babies.

It was then I realized that there were going to be people who would try to define and set limits on my life without my permission. At that point I could accept that and never realize my full potential or I could use what he said as incentive to achieve my goals. I chose my goals over his bigotry and I've never let anyone try to define who I am other than myself.

My religion professor in college. He taught from an historical view rather than the Biblical view. It opened my eyes to the fallacies within the Bible and put me on a search for a religion that fit the way I felt in my heart. I love the spiritual path I am on. It has made me a more loving, caring, and respectful person. I am a Pagan

My father was murdered, and it was a painful and struggling time in my life for so many years after the incident. I started reading the Bible and years after that, I got saved. My life is great and has been transformed. I am glad I have Jesus in my life and like I said in the a question I just answered, God has a plan in our lifes.

id say my single most defining moment is when i saved this really wierd kid(always gets picked on) from geting the crap beaten out of him by simply throwing a slightly modified lighter at one of the people that were gunna beat him up. this says 2 things about me i can make something from nothing, and i try to protect people around me. and when this kid finally snaps from being picked on ill be the one person that he wont kill.

Realizing that standing up for what was right was being more of a Marine than obeying a despicable and illegal order. Facing prison and discharge and holding firm. I prevailed and learned that my sense of honor also came with a price and required courage.

Learning the truth about religion and a mystical deity. It took many years and lots of studying but it was so worth it. No pain in it at all, simple truth - sets you free. No price for freedom of mind. None.
