It might be that I want to buy a new sweater, but think I don't deserve it, that I already have one so why buy another. It's like I'm not worthy, because there are so many truly suffering people due to wars and povery and I should just be happy to make do and not expect anything good for myself.

Is you not buying the sweater going to fix things for suffering people due to wars and poverty? I don't think so.
Maybe spend some time volunteering to help people you are concerned about. You could be a big brother or sister, help a child to read, help at a soup kitchen or a shelter. Maybe you will feel better about yourself when you know that you are doing something to make a difference for people who don't have the opportunities you have.
Obviously, God, or whatever universal power you believe in, wants you to have these things or you wouldn't be given the means to afford them. Say thank you, enjoy what you have, share some of it with others.

You are worthy of doing deeds of kindness for yourself. If you've worked hard, it's nice to give yourself a reward...even a nice new sweater. That doesn't make you self indulgent. There will always be war and poverty and human suffering on this earth. All each of us can really do is reach out from our little corner. Volunteer, contribute to a charity, donate clothing, support a child in a foreign country, mentor a child right here. Work in a food pantry, go on walks to raise money for causes...be proactive, but find your balance. Every thing in life has a balance. You sound like a very thoughtful, sensitive person, and that is commendable, but don't neglect yourself or feel guilty for enjoying some of the things your lifestyle offers. Count it a blessing.

You have definite self esteem issues that could use some help. Why are you not just as good as the person next to you??? All people were created with the same talents and abilities to do good and bad it's a choice that we make. What's your choice?? You could make the difference in the life of a child who has no one who cares about them or who cares enough them to spend time with them or help them. There are a lot of people who could use someone to care about them and help them people who have less than you or I and who need to be reminded of the fact that we care!!! Care about someone more than yourself and you'll find the answer to your questions.

Jesus was humble and didn't have a lot of stuff but he was worthy. Some girls are not worthy but they like diamonds to feel worthy. You will have to be yourself. Not too worthy and not too outcast. That is because I was raised as a social outcast. I can never feel like a winner-player in life. Your personality is extremely effective to my way of thinking.

Why not take the passion that you have for others, and use it to drive yourself to make the world better? If you feel that you should change, then by all means, do so. However, you don't have to change how you feel. You can be who you are.
