Are you sure she abuses him? What does she do to him?
I ask because teens often have a distorted view of their parents; I've seen this a lot.
Is his dad really a good place to live?
He could talk to the school counselor; he or she should be able to help.

speak to your parents..and see if he can stay over your house.
At least it will buy him a night before he speaks to his dad.
