Heart worms are transmitted by mosquitos and are not transmitted from mother too puppy. A blood draw and preventative is the best way to protect a dog from getting heartworms. ~~~their are other types of worms that puppies have and that is why it is recommended to have them dewormed

Impossible for pups to be born with heartworms. They can be infected in utero with hookworms and roundworms.

I think you may be referring to heartworms? If so, they are not born with them. Heartworms are transmitted through mosquito bites.
