The best gun ever??? That is the one that is already in your hands when you most need it.
Since you mentioned the AK-47 I'll propose that the FAL is a better rifle in a superior caliber. The best gun ever needs some clarification: For what?
The best .22 Long Rifle is the Belgium made Browning semi-auto; the best deer rifle ever is the Remington 700 in .25-06; the best revoler ever is the Colt Python .357 Magnum; the best service gun ever is the Glock Model 20 10mm; the best shotgun ever is the Remington 870, and so on, and so on...
It is all a matter of opinion and so the best gun ever is the one that works for you. If you're happy with the AK-47, more power for you. If you're happy with the .45 acp, Colt SAA, S & W 686, etc., etc. then again... More power to you.
Best.

It depends what you are doing and what you criteria is for best. Most reliable of most accurate or nicest to look at or what? For a 100% reliable and dependable pistol I'd go with a Glock 20 or a Sig P220. The 1911 has issues, it needs maintenance that these two don't. Battle rifle - not sure, the FN SCAR is looking good, better than the M-4 by far, better than the AK-47 or the FAL too. Machine gun... heavy, Browning M2. Medium... FN-MAG. Light... BREN. Hunting rifle, maybe the latest Winchester? I think the Savages are good value for money. Pre 64 Winchesters are much loved but not perfect. No simple answer. My favorite shotgun is the Beretta Extrema 2

Damn bubba!!! That's a toughie, and I'll wager you get some wide spread responses.

The best gun ever is the one in your hand when your life depends on it.
Beyond that only two spring to mind; one is the AK-47 and the other is Paul Mauser's brainchild, the 98 Mauser, of which over one hundred million have been manufactured; and his action has been copied in about every other bolt action rifle ever made. I would chose an AK-47 for one hand and a 98 Mauser for the other; and be able to sleep like a baby knowing I was protected.

I'm assuming he's talking assaut rifles since he's using the AK-47 as a reference.
So here's my 2 cents worth.
The AK-47(and it's variants).
It's used worldwide. From superpower countries to 3rd world countries. It's toppled and created governments.
Sure the governments are most likely evil, but we're talking about the firearm here.
Easy to build and maintain. The cartridge is perfect for dispatching most bi-pdeal adversaries. Of course the accuracy and range is something to be desired of, but it wasn't designed for that.
Durable and reliable. If neglected, it will still operate in unfavorable environments where others will fail.
It's not perfect. That's for sure. But the AK is in a category all by itself. And it can hold it's own, especially when the SHTF.

The best gun for what ?
shooting people ?
shooting elephants ?
shooting rabbits ?
There is no such thing as THE BEST GUN EVER, for all uses
like you wouldn't use a .223 for killing a cape buffalo, nor would you a .600 Rigby, for killing rabbits.
so, you need to clear up the matter of best gun for what
As far as the clowns that are anti gun & anti hunter, let them go walk the streets of New York City or Downtown Washington D.C at night, then see if they wouldn't want a FRIENDLY , with a piece, walking with them

I am pretty biased but, I like the Lee-enfield no1 mk3. I think it is the smoothest action I have ever felt, adequate rounds, and the bang would make a deaf man jump. I have hunted with one for about the last 5 years, and I had a shell not cycle from the clip once, but even then I just cycled the bolt again and the round slide in easy as pie. The AK is a close second to me though for it's reliability and successful wide-spread use, but it is illegal for me to have a working one, so it isn't as good.

Mostly all guns are developed with a spacific purpose in mind. Some are for rapid fire others are for long range, yet others are for stoping power. So what is the best gun? My friend it just depends on what your use for that weapon is.
I prefer a long range bullet with a lot of stoping power. like a 7mm Mag. But then I would not use such a weapon when hunting ducks. See what I mean?

the best gun is the gun that fits you personally, that you can shoot a 3 inch group at 100+ yards with no problem. its a gun that you are proud to have, and that no one knows you have untill its to late. its a gun that fits your personality, along with being the right gun for the right job. as a generalization, i like a semi auto for frecking around with, a revolver in a magnum caliber for personal protection, a bolt action for big and small game hunting and a shotgun for bird hunting.
there isnt one gun that is great, but there are alot of great guns out there.
good luck finding the one that fits you.

Well,
In my opinion it is individual specific.
For each of us the “Best Gun Ever”?
The one we have the fondest memories of. Be them from shooting or knowing who owned the gun prior.
I’ve numerous firearms. And my “Best Gun Ever” is an old Remington 22. Shoots only 22 shorts. Belonged to my father. I never shoot it. It is however conspired my “Best Gun Ever” due to the memories .
