I have a 30-45 minute commute from the suburbs into downtown for work. I'm looking at day care near work and also near home. Which is better?

I would go with the work. If you will be the one that is dropping the child off and picking them up, then it will be less of a wait to get your child. And you will be closer in case something happens, and you wont run late so you wont have to worry about late charges. Or you can get one that is halfway between work and home so that is someone wants to pick up the child also they will not have to drive sop far

I've always heard that closer to home is better, in the event that:
1- You are sick and want to take the child to daycare anyway while you rest.
2- Someone else has to pick the child up who might not live close to your work.
3- Reduced travel time for the child.

It's a tough call. I am not in this position yet (though I hope to be someday soon, unless I win the lottery and can quit work!). I think the most important thing of all is to find a place you really like. I know people who have switched two or three times until they find a daycare they are happy with. Maybe the best thing to start with is a visit to some near work and some near home, and then go from there.

Near home. Think traffic accidents. They are often worse during bad weather on freeways. Your child is safer the fewer miles they travel, IMHO. I do understand that some people want them close to work so that they can visit at lunch time, but just my thoughts.

WORK
I drive half hour to work. My daughter rides that half hour with me. (she only goes 2 days per week but I would do it if she went every day). we get the bonding time in the car, I am right there in case she gets sick or something, and I get to have her in 5 minutes when I get off work. I just feel better knowing she is just 5 minutes away. I would not feel safe if I had to drive a half hour just to get to her.

the two have their cons and experts yet now that my son is sixteen months, (i'm a SAHM now) i might say close to domicile. He hates long motor vehicle rides. even whilst he grew to become into around 6 months or so he could no longer stand to be interior the motor vehicle over 40 5 minutes. He grew to become into in daycare for about 3 months mutually as i ended out the college twelve months (i'm a instructor). To be honest it somewhat is possibly safer for him to be closer to domicile. much less motor vehicle time ability much less of a raffle for him to be interior the motor vehicle in case you ever get into an twist of destiny. even if if he grew to become into ill and you had to %. him up, the motor vehicle trip may be terrible for a ill toddler.

Work. It's way better peace of mind to have them nearby. Whenever I get a call that something is wrong , I just want to be there FAST. Also, you get to spend that travel time together, which is very precious..you can really make it quality time. and your child is away less time.less hours to pay for caregiver.

I would say work. That way if you need to pick your child up early for some reason, you can be right there, or if, heaven forbid, something happens you are closer.

good luck!

Closer to home. Less time your child is in the car.

Is your child good during car rides?

I would choose close to home.
