Earlier today I posted a question and got some very helpful answers about the differences between Enlisted men and Officers. It seems as though enlisting in the military first so that I can get the lay of land a little bit, learn the mechanics of the armed forces, and also be able to relate to those who do the majority of the grunt work would better prepare me to then become a better officer. However I don't know if I can enlist as a private and proceed on towards NCO after I have graduated from college, and then become an officer. I would appreciate any knowledge on this.

My reason for asking is that I would prefer to finish my four-year degree before joining the miltary so that thngs are a little less complicated.

I would appreciate any knowledge on this subject.

Depending what you are majoring in you can go in as an officer but I would definitely finish college and join the ROTC. The world is yours for the taking.

ok nevertheless i'm a protection tension brat and opt to connect the army after intense college i will admit this lots, that is authentic that the Marines have nicer uniforms and their standards of coaching for common infantry is bigger than the army. If all you opt to be is a typical grunt then the Marines is acceptable of the two (i'm not even gonna contain the different 2 branches). besides the undeniable fact that in case you opt to be aside of the particular operations community (Rangers, S.F.,Delta, tension Recon, MARSOC and so on.) than the army is a much extra advantageous determination. Marines have via the years gotten the fast end of the stick, they have not got sufficient money which makes for older kit and much less severe efficient coaching. Do you particularly should be specially operations in case you at the instant are not getting the appropriate? military particular Forces have continuously overwhelmed each physique else in SOCOM in terms of coaching and a sequence of competitions. they are the appropriate geared up and appropriate experienced besides DELTA who have not got public competitions like that (that is an fullyyt distinctive worldwide). in case you opt to extra approximately DELTA i will allow you to be attentive to lots yet not specifics for sure considering I ain't been there. As on your A.D. i might advise enlisting with a 4 12 months degree (that way you will get in as an E-4) and finished a excursion as a Ranger, than observe for particular forces and the two visit OCS or grow to be a Warrant Officer. As for DELTA, you extra advantageous be pleased with doing somewhat fairly shady stuff and opt to do it for at your twenty years (i've got in no way heard of a DELTA operator getting out till now 20).

USMC here, it sounds like your debating on becoming an officer or joining enlisted then becoming an officer, for respect and knowledge of the grunts out there that you will be in charge of. Either way is great, but if your going enlist just to get experience before you become an officer, in my opinion its a waist of time. Become an officer and just remember to respect the people you are in charge of and what they have been through. If you respect them and then they will respect you, and you will have the best and strongest platoon, company, battalion, regiment.

By all means complete your education - you will need some extra training to become an officer unless you have gone through ROTC in college you will have to go through OCS in the Army.
