There is this party I want to go to this weekend. It is just like a regular party, except the guy I like might be there. I really don't even know if he is coming. Also one of my best friends that I haven't really been able to hang out with that much is supposed to be there. It is just a normal 14th birthday day for one of my friends. No alcholol. No drugs. No anyhing like that, just like all the other parties I have been to. Also, I haven't been to a party in over a month!! He told me he wasnt letting me go because he doesn't have a good feeling about it?!?!? I don't get, he just randomly decideds not to let me go to parties anymore?? It make NO sense. Help?? What do I say to him?

BTW- I am 13.

Even though you are upsent, this is actually a good thing. This shows that your dad actually cares about you. Not everyone gets that. He loves you and he is scared to let you go because once you are at that party he will not be there to protect you. This is where the bad feeling comes from. If the party is at night, then there is a reason to worry because a lot of things can go wrong.
If the party is at night, then... what are you all going to do? sit around, watch tv, play board games? Thats not what usually happens... people do bring alcohol and drugs, get drunk and high and then a bunch of things can happen. Accidents, fights, arguments, unwated sex, drowning. He doesn't know for sure if it is a clean party or a drug party, so he is worried.

If the party is not at night... then you should try to explain that to him. Tell him that the things I listed above are not going to happen, and if you have any friends that your father knows, tell him that they are coming too. This way he wont worry as much.

Another big question: does he trust you enough to let you to a party? If you have trust within your family then you should be ok.

What should you do?
Talk to him, don't yell, try to emphesise the fact that its a no alcohol or drugs party. Tell him that you haven't been to a party in a while. Maybe purpose the idea of setting a limit on how many parties you can go to in a certain amount of time. This way he will be sure that it wont become a habit for you.

Going to parties at a young age is ok as long as you look back to that day, twenty years from now and say "Oh that was fun". But if you look back and say "Oh sh... I shouldn't have done that, it was a big mistake", then you did something wrong. Just make sure it doesn't get to that.

No parent in their right mind would allow their kids to go to a party UNLESS they are going to be there or some responsible parents will be chaperoning.

maybe your dad knows something that he aint telling you, like trust the people that are holding the party, it might not be you personally...
