If you do not push through with your complaint, the school has no basis to charge your friend.

The way the system is set up is "The State of " " vs whomever". You being the actual victim is helpful for a fruitful prosecution but is not necessary. In the court system the crimes are committed against the state and not the individual. The prosecutor's office will have the decision to seek charges or not. I would start with speaking with the prosecutor about the situation.

This may be a sticky situation. At first they will probably say they will press charges/blah blah, but in the end, hearing what you think, they wont. They just dont want you getting in the habit of relying on them to always be on ur side.

Man, if your friend will appologize first then here's what you do. Tell the prosecutor that you remembered that you gave her permission to buy something, you just didn't know it would be that much. Also let him know that's the facts as you know them and you'll repeat the same thing in court.

The prosecutor will waste no time in getting rid of your case. He does no have the time to bring a case to court that he knows he's going to loose.

Your friend needs to talk to a lawyer. Try the Public Defenders Office.

the best thing, for her sake is to be charged.
if no charges are filed, she knows she can get away with it.
better to teach them young
