ive heard that on the ps3, you can play games from the ps1 and the ps2 without buyig anytype of ps3! also, what is "blue-ray?" short and simple answer for me to understand please. the only reason why i want a xbox 360 is to play halo 3 LIVE. thats my one and only reason why i want to get it. but as time goes by, i heard the PS3 is getting better coming out with more games like how the xbox did, is this rite? also, ive learned that these consoles have gigs 20, 180 or something. what is this gig thing for? does these console plays songs or something? all i want to use the console for is to play games. period. i can play songs on my computer. so which console should i get? also, extra question for the halo fans. is there a halo 4 coming out?

Blu Ray is the next generation disc medium which can store up to 50GB (100GB in experimental models) The extra space allows game developers to make large responsive environments, complex artificial intelegance, HD video and audio, etc. without compression. Blu Ray is also used for movies which are displayed in HD.- The xbox 360 only uses DVD for games, which can only hold 9GB, which results in short games, aka Halo 3, Bioshock, and gears of war.

Also, you have to think about reliability. The Xbox 360 has a 33% failure rate, (the PS3's failure rate is around 0.2%) Which means about 1 out of 3 Xbox 360's will get the Red Rings of Death in the first year and die, but microsoft will replace it for free.- Source- http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/jul2007/tc2007075_604500.htm?chan=top+news_top+news+index_top+story

The ammount of Gigabytes on the system's hard drive refers to the ammount of space which you can store on the system, such as movies, music, and pictures.

Also, it depends on your taste in games. The PS3 has a wide spectrum of games released and coming, while the Xbox 360 mainly has shooters and sports games.

You should get a PS3.

Also you said that you don't care about the quality?? That's not a very good thing to say really. If you're going to invest in a console you should get a console that's reliable and has good quality. The PS3 is the console that has the reliability and has very good quality.

The PS3's lifespan will be much longer than the Xbox 360s. The 360 will probably have to be updated in a few years just to keep up with the PS3.

Also the PS3 has more and better games coming out in 2008. The PS3 also has a good selection of games out now, it's just that Sony's biggest games are coming next year. The only major game for the 360 next year is Halo Wars and really that's about it. And Halo Wars is not going to be a first person shooter, it's a strategy game and there is not going to be a Halo 4, and I'm not a Halo fan at all. There will be games based on the Halo series, but that's about it.

Also, you shouldn't buy the Xbox 360 just to play a 4-5 hour campaign mode game (Halo 3). You'll probably get tired of playing Halo 3 on LIVE after a month.

Blu-Ray is a HD format disc that can hold 25GB of data on a single layer. There also have been experimental Blu-Ray discs that were capable of holding over 100GB of data.

The GB (Gig) is the amount of hard drive space in the PS3. The PS3 can store and play Music, Videos, and Pictures.

The PS3 is more of a multimedia console. The PS3 is a gaming machine and an extertainment center. The Xbox 360 is mainly more of a gaming console only because all of the attachments have to be purchased separatly.

Basically, do you want a console that will have a longer lifespan, more technology, more games on the way, very reliable (PS3). Or do you want a console that has games now but less games coming in the future, and a very high hardware failure rate. The choice is simple: PS3.

personally i prefer the 360,
-the new PS3 40gig (the cheaper of the 2) can NOT play any ps1 or ps2 games but the 80 gig can

-i feel the question of gigs has been answered satisfactorily and will put my effort towards your other questions

-blue ray is sony's form of a high definition disk, neither is dependable right now because it is too early in that fight to say what is better between blue ray and hd dvd

-the 360 has a wide variety of games and there are talks of more hit games on the horizon, the ps3 currently does not have any HUGELY amazing games but has a handfull of fanboy sequels and a couple of really appealing new games

-as for online play, the 360 has a huge network of online players and continues to grow daily where as the ps3's online play is nowhere near the quality of LIVE

-the only negative ive seen for the 360 is the hardware issues, keep in mind the problem has been fixed for new consoles being made. if you look back at the start of the 360 hardware issues you will notice it didn't have any major problems for the first year, so there is still a good chance the ps3 experiences these problems, you cant say for sure what the future will hold

my personal conclusion is that if you want online gameplay you want xbox, if you want a dvd player buy ps3, if you want something that can do both buy the 360
also note that only 1/2 the movie production companies support either blue-ray or hd-dvd

I think it's a matter of what you like. Both are powerful systems and have stuff the others don't.

360 has a bigger library of games right now, the PS3 has a good size but it came out a year later so it is "catching up".

If you don't care about online gaming or HD and such then the Xbox arcade would be good for you. Its a stripped down 360 at a price under $300. If you play online you will need a HD and a more expensive PS3 or Xbox 360. Also not all PS3 models can play PSone or PS2 games so if you choose PS3 make sure you get the model that can play old PS games on it.

If you want online play Xbox Live is a more rounded out and better service then PSN but PSN is free while you pay either a monthly or yearly fee to play on Xbox live.

If you like the old PS games then you may consider a PS3 cause you will likely see updates of those games (Sony made games) on the PS3 either now or in the future.

So if you are looking at price and don't need the extras a Xbox arcade system maybe good for you, if you want to play old PSone and 2 games then look into getting a PS3 (that can play those old games, remember some models do not or are limited). Either system you get you will be happy, I have both and enjoy them alot.

All PS3 can play PSX games, but the 40 gb cannot play PS2 games, while the other versions can play PS2 games.

Blu-ray is the next gen format equivalent of DVD. It also refers to movies that are made on Blu-ray disks. If you don't have a HD-DVD, then you don't need Blu-ray. Blu-ray movies are in HD.

Yes, the PS3 will be getting more and better games. Most consoles have a tough 1st year when it comes to games. Most programmers just doesn't have enough time to take advantage of the technology, so games kind of suck. Then you also have companies that rushes out a game just so that it doesn't have any competition. Since there's no competition, it will sell a few more games than if it had some competition.

The gbs in the hard drive are just storage space. It doesn't do anything graphically to the games. It might speed up the game because it's installed on the hard drive. The PS3 and 360's hard drive are similar to a PC's hard drive. You can use it to save games, download stuff, store stuff, etc. You can upload songs to both the PS3 and 360.

No one really knows for sure if there's going to be a Halo 4. Supposedly, Halo is supposed to be a trilogy. If that's true, then there won't be a Halo 4.

ok u can either get the 60 gig ps3 or the xbox 360 elite with 120gig personally i have a 60gig ps3 and its good but im waiting for mgs4 which is pretty much the reason i got my ps3 heres some pros and cons.

1.ps3 is bluray ready and the elite xbox has hddvd
2.they both have hdmi
3.ps3 network is free u have to pay for xbox live but with the 360 and ps3 u can play against people on pc and 360 vice versa i good online game now is call of duty 4
4.ps3 has no overheating issues stuff like but the 360 alot of the time is faulty and u will send it of to get it repaired my friend has got his 360 fixed three times now

really the decision is up to you cause the 360 is apparently the last xbox they are making so in a few years it will be back to nintendo vs playstation who knows sega might make a new console and halo 4 might get announced even though they said halo 3 is the last one

2007-12-13 12:49:52 · answer #6 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

First off, buy the ps3, they already made the most out of the xbox 360 right now, and the best game for ps3 uses only 33% of it's power and technology. 80gb ps3 plays most ps2 and ps1 games, 40gb ps3 plays very very few ps1 games and no ps2 games. Blu ray? simple: VHS then DVD then Blu Ray. the ps3 competes well with other blu ray players. its not worth buying 360 to just play halo 3 live besides, if you bought all the accesories for 360 to match what the ps3 offers, it would cost about $700. the gig thing is used to save games, download stuff from the internet, the ps3 can connect to the internet, and take songs from cds and put them on your ps3.

This is the end all argument for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Note that I am not a fanboy and have played both consoles and by far the Playstation 3 has longevity than the Xbox 360. These are facts and I have numerous sources. Why is this answer long? It refutes everything that Xbox 360 owners say about the Playstation 3. Also, if you're about to dish out $400-$600 for a system, you want to know all you can.

Company:
Microsoft is a company which experiences are mostly computers not games. Windows Vista is a disaster and 50% of people switch back to Windows XP. Microsoft never answered people's problems, this is why people turn to Mac. When Microsoft heard about their Red Ring of Death, they didn't fix it, instead updated the warranty.

Sony's first Playstation was a success, so they know their field with this. Their smart and reliable and always help their customers when they need too. When Playstation 2 had a lens error, it was Sony who provided how to clean your Playstation 2 with a cotton swab and alcohol, not someone else. They didn't ask you the send your system in so they can fix it, they admitted the problem and gave a simple do-it-yourself solution.

Price:
Look at the bigger picture. With the Playstation 3 you are getting a Blu-Ray DVD player which like $300 on the market for the cheapest one. Playstation 3 most expensive model cost $600 bucks. Xbox 360 most expensive model cost $450 bucks. Let's say Microsoft don't come out for another console for 5 years so lets add their $50 subscription fee to play Xbox Live. That's $250 dollars + $450 dollars for a Xbox 360 in 5 years minus the games. So you are paying more than the Playstation 3 just to use it's features. Features that should have been granted to you when you spent the $450 bucks for their console.

Problems:
Playstation 3 had a slight bug problem (3% in consoles worldwide) but was fixed right away with re-releases of the consoles. People complained about their Sixaxis controller not having rumble technology so Sony has worked on Dualshock 3, which will be coming out in Spring 2008. They actually listen when someone complains.

Xbox 360 currently has a major hardware malfunction called the Red Ring of Death (A play off the name Blue Screen of Death) that only Microsoft can fix. This is a problem in 33% of their consoles in the United States (1 out of 3). Even in their new consoles, these problems still occur. Microsoft has offered to fix it for free and extended their warranty. The problem is it takes 6 weeks to get your Xbox 360 back and it could get stolen in the mail and you won't get reimbursed. In fact Xbox 360 is number 1 in the top ten bad electronics in 2007. Everyone I know is on their second console. If only Microsoft would tell local Gamestops how to fix the problem, but they don't have the best interest in gamers in mind.

Games:
Xbox 360 has better games than the Ps3 now, but by the end of 2008, the Playstation 3 will have way more better games. How do I know? E3 2007 graded every console. Wii got a C- because they talked about their success. Xbox 360 got a C because they talk about their games in 2007 such as Halo and BioShock. The Ps3 got a B- because their longevity is noticed and their games in 2008 will be the best out of the 3 consoles.

Xbox 360 has had a head start for a year and their games are slightly better than Ps3. Their top 3 games: Halo 3, Gears of War, and Bioshock are all First Person Shooters. They don't have a mix array of games. Microsoft dishes a lot of cash to the developers to keep games exclusive.

The best games for the Xbox 360 has come and gone. So you tell me you're going to sit there and wait 2-3 years for Halo 4.

Well right now there's Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Ratchet and Clank, Virtua Fighter 5, Heavenly Sword, Stranglehold, Assassin's Creed, Virtua Tennis 3, Folklore, Uncharted, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Guitar Hero 3, Singstar and Call of Duty 4. Some games are for the Xbox 360 as well.

Upcoming exclusive games for the PS3 are Killzone 2, Haze, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Afrika, Motorstorm 2, Wipeout, Yakuza 3, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, White Knight Chronicles, Disgaea 3, The Getaway 3, Heavy Rain, SOCOM: Confrontation, Wardevil, LA Noire, Tekken 6 and God of War 3 will all be coming out as PS3 exclusives. Also the maker of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is making his next game exclusively on PS3.

Thats like 15 exclusives with high 9.0 reviews from Gamespot & GameInformer. Most of these games take over a month to complete so you won't be putting the Ps3 down for quite some time now.

Developers had 2 years to dish out games for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 is not far behind.

Accessories
The only accessory you need and should really buy is a new inter cooler fan for the Xbox 360. You should buy it before the Xbox 360 break on you. Why won't Microsoft give it you guys for free? Because they don't care about their gamers and see this as a lost.

Playstation 3 on the other hand has numerous accessories. They had bluetooth headsets, the new eyetoy which will make the Ps3 a lot similar to Wii with kid games, internet browser. Did you know that Sony is creating an application to allow users to record Live TV. So you're getting a TiVo with a Blu-Ray DVD Player.

Online:
Xbox 360 online is better because more people since it came out a year earlier than the Ps3. When Ps3 introduces Home, the online community will become more connected and better. In Home, you can play pool, billards, bowl, and jump right into games. You don't even need a ps3 game to have fun. Expect a major knockoff from Microsoft, it's in their character to do so.

In closing, you can't go wrong with the Playstation 3. Playstation 1 and 2 were major hits and the Playstation 3 will follow. Getting a Xbox 360 is like having a Daweoo, a pretty dumb idea.

Who are you going to choose? The 2 time back to back winner of the console wars or the sophomore that came back unprepared for a rematch (When I mean unprepared I mean buggy [like the ring of death])

The Ps3 is a end all hands down winner.

Halo 3 will come out for computer.

for halo 3 live on the 360 you will have to buy a live card anywhere between 40-70 bucks and for the ps3 you can play online for free. blu-ray is a new form of HD disc it makes the picture look better, there will not be a halo 4 coming out. the ps3 is much better in my opinion, and there will be many games coming out for the ps3 soon, also the ps3 has 80gb memory in it ( depending on which model you get). only the 80gb and the 60gb can play ps1 and ps2 games the 40gb cannot, and the 20gb is not made anymore.

A game i would recommend for the ps3is resistance fall of man.

I would highly recommend going with an Xbox 360.

First off, gigs. Gigabytes refers to the memory that each unit has. The higher amount of gigs, the more game files, movies, music, etc can be stored. If you're using it primarily for games, then 20 gigs is plenty. Also, if you're looking for backwards compatibility, the 40gig PS3 will not play PS2 or PS1 games, only the 80 gig will.

Blu-ray is a high definition dvd format, that plays movies in an extremely high quality. Without an HDTV, the blu-ray player is essentially pointless. However, the 360 offers an HD-DVD player addon, so if you were to get an HDTV at some point, you could get that on the side.

As for playing games online, Xbox live charges a yearly fee, while PS3 is free. While Xbox costs 60 dollars a year to play, the online is significantly better, having less lag time, and a better experience overall.

In general, I find the 360 to be a much better unit.
