Ok-that's good.

Now: belief in God is not enough, though. There is an old saying-"It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you're sincere."

And that is fine, as far as it goes.

But-outside of a true SPIRITUAL change, there is absolutly NOTHING that CAN get you into heaven, outside of that.

Sincerity alone is not enough to get you into Heaven. There has to be SPIRITUAL change that has to happen to a person.

This is what is know as being BORN AGAIN.

Now, that phrase is very confusing to many people. Basically, it means that a person has to:

1. Admit that they are a sinner

2. Repent, (that is:cry out to Jesus that you regret that you have sinned, to admit that there is nothing that you can do will earn His favor, & you need to be forgiven)

3. Ask for His forgivness

And MOST IMPORTANTLY , ask Jesus, (by the power of the Holy Spirit), to come into your life, to rule your life, & to change you into the person that HE wants you to be.

You may be familiar with this, but is important that I know that you are indeed Born Again.

Well, I've always thought of it it thus:

Definition 1. A born-again Christian is someone who may have been brought up a Christian but then lapsed (i.e. a period of other religious/atheistic/agnostic belief, of not attending worship and not counting oneself a Christian) or who has a different (or even no) faith. This person, during their period of lapse or of being with another faith experiences a conversion to the Christian faith. This may be sudden (as with St. Paul, whose sudden conversion on the road to Damascus and subsequent letters and treatises on the faith render him perhaps the greatest born again Christian of all time) or it may be by a long process of reasoned spiritual thought. One becomes a born-again Christian when one (re) enters the Christian faith though formal baptism into the Church.

Definition 2. The popular and pejorative use of a born-again Christian describes a Christian who is very loud and public about their faith, condemning others and pushing their views at almost every juncture. This person (in general of a low church Protestant denomination, such as - although not necessarily - Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal etc. etc.) may or may not have experienced a conversion during their life but suffice to say they are willing to tell the whole world about their faith in a very expressive manner.

The question is inaccurate - a Christian is born again.

it should therefore read :

what does someone have to do to become a Christian.

a Christian cannot be fake.

Amazing! Only one answerer has mentioned the key passage in John 3 and, in my opinion, they didn't interpret it correctly in context. This issue is one of the two biggest which separate the true from the fake.
In John 3, Jesus makes a comment about the Spirit being like the wind, (v8). Earlier in v6 he says that 'flesh', i.e. natural people, cannot give birth to anything other than more natural people. In my opinion, this means that we do not control the new spiritual birth, only the Spirit does. In v15 Jesus says the the Spirit makes us spiritually alive based on belief in himself.
This is what the 'saved by grace through faith' means. 'Saved' partly means being made alive spiritually. Grace indicates that God controls it, we don't and faith is about belief in Christ.
God bless you and hear your prayers! Steven.

They don't. Is a doctrinal error put forth by Evangelicals and Calvinists and has not biblical basis.

"Born again" describes effects of baptism, "born of water and Spirit" (John 3:5). When we are baptised, we are transformed from a state of sin to a state of grace.

Edit: S. Ring, is you who are incorrect on this. In many other passages, water and spirit - or Baptism, are mentioned together and in reference to spiritual regeneration or being 'born again' as some call it. Baptism is all that is necessary.

I don't know if you would be willing to really know and act upon the Truth of what is required for you to be born again.

How was Jesus baptized. Put under the water in a river by John the Baptist. Full body immersion. Not a sprinkling of holy water. That represents your " born again " status.

But it is the study, faith, and determination to seek the Truth from those who really are the true Christians and study what the Bible says as the final authority for it is God's word. True Christians must do what is required as a demonstration of their faith.

They are the " sheep " Jesus referred to. Jesus said when the
ones seeking the truth, hear the truth will follow when called.

Those who do not want nor seek the Truth are referred to by Jesus as goats.

You are a spiritual person and my be old enough to
" discern " what the truth is. In order to show your love for God you must do all the things Jesus did. He was the example to follow when it came to honouring and serving the True God of the Bible....Jehovah. See Palms 83:18

Before you can be born again wouldn't it be wise to know who the True God is and why His Son Jesus died for you?

You are precious in the eyes of your creator if you are asking this type of question at such a young age. Good for you in asking a question that points to your spirituality.

Next time a Jehovah Witness ( out of love for you ) comes in contact with you to tell you about the true God Jehovah and His purposes for mankind and you....invite them to explain what you need to do to gain eternal life.

I know I won't get any mere 10 points for this answer, but maybe you will be one of those who really loves God and is willing to at least investigate. After all it is your life we are talking about here.

Visit a Kingdom Hall on Sunday and meet the Christians who would love to have you learn and study what the Bible really has to say about the coming of God's Kingdom to this earth.

Best Wishes,

Wood

The Pentecostals say say you must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Then be baptized by water. Then be baptized in the Holy Ghost. Then continue to work your own soul's salvation for the rest of your life.
