Do you feel that you have to explain yourself everytime?
I was talking to a Bosnian Muslim today & she just got here (London) from the US & said that she had a hard time there.

I'm not Muslim, but I think it would generally be hard for a Muslim to live here (though there are exceptions). Most of what Americans know about Muslims comes from the news-- and the news only likes to report the negative things about Muslims. Americans are vastly uneducated about Islam and most do not understand it at all... and 9/11 really did not help out that situation. It's given many Americans the impression that all Muslims are intolerant, fanatical, blood-thirsty terrorists. Anyone who has any sort of understanding of what most Muslims believe knows that is not true, but as I said, most Americans are not educated very well about Islam so they do NOT know.

so 'kaafir lands' are to blame? the whole thing about the veil being banned is because a terrorist used this to hide his identity so he could murder people. that man is to blame on that one. however in many countries including my own women are allowed to wear the veil. as a matter of security it should be removed. once passed the security procedures put it back on. it's not just muslim girls that are prostitutes, there are sikh, greek orthodox, christian, catholic, jewish and hindu girls too. don't blame the west for children not speaking arabic...blame the parents. there are plenty of mosques, muslim schools, halal butchers, eateries etc so it's not like people aren't provided for. every religion in my country has a right to worship in a 'house of their god'. i see muslim girls and boys wearing the western clothes, eating bacon, then chewing gum in the hope their parents won't smell it. i know of muslim girls having abortions because muslim boys have gotten them pregnant and left them and then shunned by their parents for being a disgrace. this happens in every religion. don't blame 'kaafir land'. blame society. it happens in muslim countries too not just 'kaafir land'. sex before marriage, relationships, they're just kept hidden. if you personally think a 'kaafir land' is that bad then please move. you don't have to stay. that's the thing with the world today you can pretty much live anywhere and if you'd live a better life in a muslim country because a christian one isn't good enough then go. because right now christians in a christian country are persecuted. do gooders and other religions complain about seeing happy christmas/easter etc up. but don't complain when when the lights go up for diwali, or the muslim festivals are being celebrated in public. as soon as a christian one is people will come out all guns blazing. it's a complete joke. if you bothered to ask the 'kaafir' you'd probably find the majority don't care what religion you are, they don't care what race you are, they just want everyone to get along and chill. have no animosity between religions and each live their lives without the persecution. but that won't happen. i expected to get thumbed down. @ismail and what exactly is the truth? the truth is different to different religions. why can't people just accept girls and boys will make mistakes. why is it christian and other religions are looked down upon. i don't look down upon anyone elses religion. i don't judge anyone for their choices be them good or bad (there are 2 things i can not and will not condone though). i know people who do and i will disagree and argue my point until i am blue in the face about people having a right to believe in whatever they choose. i will back any religion or race to their belief entitlement. i think it's all got very silly. arguing and fghting over faiths. your faith is your faith. the next persons faith is their own too. nobody has the right to push their beliefs on to others. nobody has the right to be violent so as to enforce that belief.

I live in the US so I can only speak for myself - but yes I find it difficult in many respects. I get stared at regularly - the rude kind of stares your mama was supposed to teach you not to do. Sometimes people whisper things to each other as I pass by. My scarf basically tells everyone that I'm a Muslim. I'm proud to be one and it sucks that people can't be more tolerant and just understand that not all Muslims are fanatics etc.

all hindus cannot b killed
indira gandhi was shot
all sikhs cannot b killed
4 the sake of a stupid few, their country men
r in trouble wherever they go, thats what happening
2 muslims, not only in the US, but everywhere
it is a gross voilation of HUMAN RIGHTS, and the americans r the main culprits
they do not practice what they preach
thereby bringing shame to the christians worldwide

I was raised in American and raised as a Christian now being Muslim I can say yes it is very difficult to be a Muslim in the US.
you face a lot of ignorant statments discrimination, lots of looks and stares, threats, sometimes we are forced to take off our head scarf it is very hard I have faced numerous of these things for the 5 years that I have been Muslim and I have had some really good experiences you have good and bad everywhere. I wouldnt change it for anything I'm happy and content as a Muslim.

Depends on where you live-suburbia, the city, poor area, etc. Two families with which I'm friends, both from Iran, don't seem to have any serious problems. But I suspect it varies greatly with each person.

Not sure, I don't think I'm really an obvious Muslim, (Beard ain't long, don't wear any hats, etc).
So it's not really difficult, except for my family which know I'm Muslim, they are kinda harsh.
