You say baby baptism does not save, you are right it does not. The same people that know baby baptism or water baptism does not save ask people to repeat a prayer after them and tell them they are now saved. What is the difference? They are both false ways to God. Neither one of the ways will save a person. Are you really going to tell me a person with a broken and humble heart needs to repeat what someone else says? Do they really need you to call out to God?

In his book Outlines of Theology, A. A. Hodge states, "The practice of infant baptism is an institution which exists as a fact, and prevails throughout the universal church, with the exception of the modern Baptists, whose origin can be definitely traced to the Anabaptists of Germany, about A.D. 1537...."

Jesus is also clear that eternal life is not simply for those who call "Lord, Lord," but for those who have done the Father's will (Matthew 7:21).

Here is a great Presbyterian article on the Biblical nature of infant baptism: http://bettercovenant.org/papers/infant_baptism.htm

Baptism of water and spirit cleans sin. With an otherwise sinless child - that will save them.

Parroting a prayer will not save unless the person is having a baptism of spirit at that point.

Baptism is a public act letting people know you follow Christ. It does not save. But to be saved you need confess and pray to Jesus and God to become a Christian The difference baby baptism is act of the parent and has nothing to do with being saved. Romans10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. So yes the Bible says you need to call out to God. You don't have to repeat a pray, you can make your pray. But you need to pray.

Baptism is not just a Catholic sacrament. Protestants baptise babies as well. I guess I believe baptism is just a way of dedicating your baby to the church and the whole congregation promises to help and guide that baby in the ways of the Lord. It is a very pure and blessed thing. But there are also some, like my Baptist cousins, who were baptised when they were six or seven. I guess I believe in my heart that because children are pure that God will accept them if they die. I hope and pray in my heart that that is what happens with all of the babies that die before birth.

I agree with you that a prayer can be meaningless. But the difference is that a baby is incapable of being sincere and a person repeating a prayer can actually mean it. Even Jesus told his followers how to pray. I agree however that the prayer doesn't save you. I have argued with people before that you are saved before you utter the "sinners prayer".

if i am drowning and yell 'help' and someone pulls me out of the water and an onlooker falls in and, remembering what happened to me, yells 'help' also, will people refuse to help him because he 'copied' me? if you take an oath in court to tell 'the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth'. is the veracity of your testimony somehow suspect because you copied what the bailiff said? if you repeat your marriage vows in front of the person performing the ceremony, is your marriage somehow null & void?

it really doesn't matter WHAT words the person wanting to be saved says, be it a prayer i say or something that 'popped into their head'...what matters is what is in their heart, their understanding of the need for salvation and their desire to be saved...and THAT, my friend, IS the difference between 'say this prayer after me' and baby baptism!

did or have you ask God to forgive your sin ? if so , who are you repeating with this prayer? or where you the first to pray this ? Jesus said when you pray , pray like this , so is it not Christ like to tell and help someone to pray in order to become saved ? salvation does not come from man , so who are you to say what prayer God hears ? prayer comes from the heart through the Holy Spirit . who are you to say what is in someones heart when they repeat a prayer? when did you become higher then God ? The Word of God says that if one believes, repents, and ask for forgiveness and ask Christ Jesus into their heart they will be saved . where does It say that only when you say so one will be saved that one will be saved? God is Higher and Mightier then mans mind can understand , so stop trying to limit Him.

it just a way to show them what to say. Many non-christians don't know how to pray. And if a grown person "repeats" it, they know what they are saying and they hopefully mean it. The difference is that a baby has no idea what is happening and no say in it. Your right "repeating" what is said will not save you, you have to understand what you are saying and why and mean it!

Yes a person needs to call out to God to be saved. Why? Because the bible is the word of God and the bible says this: "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved".
