What is the difference between the full version and the upgrade of windows vista?

Using the upgrade version of Windows Vista, you can install only if you already have a Windows operating system that is approved for the upgrade (the upgrade upgrades your Windows installation to Windows Vista, keeping everything else). With full version of Windows Vista, you can perform both an upgrade and a clean install (start from scratch).

The upgrade will only load if you have a previous version of Windows installed.

upgrade can only be put on an existing computer with a prior os of 2000 or xp home or pro. down side of purchasing the upgade is if your hard drive goes you will need to install prior os before you can put vista back on your computer. full version lets you reinstall completely if you have a hard drive failure
