Me and my bf have a long distance relationship, and because of it I've only met his family 4 or 5 times. I don't know them too well.

I'm going to visit this weekend, and staying that their house. Obviously, it is etiquette to get them something for Christmas. But there's 4 other people besides my bf in that family, and getting them each something can get a little pricey. I was thinking of getting the family just one gift. Does that seem cheap?

What can I get them that won't cost too much?

Depending upon the ages of the people involved, a bottle of wine or box of chocolates or box of assorted cookies. If they like flowers, you can buy a live plant (poinsettia or holly or orchid for a change from Christmas flowers). Wrap the pot in fancy paper if not already wrapped, and add a festive bow. The big pots (and more expensive) are in many cases too big for many houses. I just gave my Mom couple of plants. One was a very small poinsettia and the other was a very small pine tree. Each was in a fancy pot that sat on a larger tray. Total price was less than $15 at Home Depot.

As you said, you do not know your BF's family too well and so any gesture I am sure would be appreciated. The size of the gift does not matter, the intent behind the giving is so much more important.

One gift that your BF's family can collectively enjoy is a lovely idea and done with pure goodness.

Enjoy the weekend!

I would be wise to get just one gift for the whole family like a box of chocolates or a big nice log cake.

How about a fun board game. Then everyone can play and it's not that expensive.
