We recently moved to the province of NB. We are appalled at the lack of doctors here. I took my Mum into the doctor who is 86 and almost pleaded with her to take my wife and I as patients and she apologized but said we would have to put our names on her wating list of 2600 come on! We'll be dead before we get to see her. We are relatively healthy and want to stay that way as we are used to having our annual physicals, we can't even find any doctor to give us one. We put our name on a list here called the "Orphan Clinic", sounds like we're from Namibia or something? They tell us we will get a call when one is available. They called us back 2 months after we left a voice mail and told us they couldn't tell us when a doctor was available. Do we have to get on a plane and go to the states or maybe China or India before we get a family doctor. There is a HUGE problem with the NB healthcare system. My Mum's doctor says that the province is refusing to pay them anymore so no incentives.

In Canada you have the right to the doctor of your choice. Of course, what they don't tell you is that the doctor of your choice has to be taking new patients into the practice or you're out of luck. Since few doctors are taking new patients you'll just have to go see the "doc in a box" at the government clinic and hope he/she speaks English.
