it's not bad, I've heard worse, but it's sounds retarded when you hear someone say it. It makes me laugh at them.

Actually, it is.

You only use such terms when you're with people you're really close with and only in a casual sense.

try using this word in a formal dinner or a business cocktail party and you'd end up losing all your contacts and having a lot of eyebrows raised at you.

That word is considered offensive and derogatory in many circles and should be avoided unless in a casual atmosphere with friends you know and know you well enough to be aware that you mean no offense when you say that word.

It's true that the word can refer to a female dog technically, but if you are using this word in that sense then make sure to state your purposes and intentions very clearly.

It stands in for a swear word, and it sounds a lot like it. Basically you are saying a word that is intended to remind the listener of an inappropriate word. Chances are you were thinking of the inappropriate word also. It's better not to talk negatively of others at all.

After winter break, I went back to my dorm and played some Xbox Live with some friends that live in other parts of the country/state. One of them said that he could tell that I was gone because he hadn't heard "shitballs" in over a month.

first of all it is not a "new" word
second it is actually the word ***** stretched out to sound different and everybody knows it
third 'inappropriate' is a matter of timing and context; with friends messing around it's probably fine; in the workplace (or school if that is your workplace) no, it's off limits

it depends on the context in which it is used and the setting in which you say it. if you said it at school then yes it is an inappropriate word. i don't like the word because it's another variation of the word b**ch which i don't think should be used ever.

I don't think it's bad. It's probably inappropriate and rude though...

Mostly I just think it's funny.

It is inappropriate. We should think of nicer ways to refer to people or people will flinch when they see you coming.

It's the same thing as "b*tch" essentially. Besides, it just makes you sound immature and ill-bred. I'd refrain from using it.
