Did you not read the news articles about this? The kid was raised in an extremely strict religious family. He was sheltered and forced into a very controlled life. If anything, the family not praying might have done him some good!
What do you expect when your own mother pats you down for contraband every time you enter the house... looking for CD's DVD's and video games.

What could prevent this is taking REAL measures against these shootings. Praying wont stop anything, we have to get off our lazy praying asses and do something. Now I couldn't say what we should do, but we should start with finding out why these shootings happen. Is it social factors, economic...etc? Then we can deal with the issue. If (per say) God existed, then he'd want us to solve the problem anyway. We can't leave all our problems up to him to fix, thats selfish. And the shootings aren't because people don't pray enough, because God doesn't punish people that way (or so say the Christians).

Yes, since the last shooter was a believer shooting up his own church he definitely should have prayed more.
If he had prayed more God might have stopped the security guard from killing him before he wiped out the rest of the people there.

To blame it on satan, or lack of prayer is oversimplifying. Misguided violence concerns me regardless of its location. Things that could help avoid such tragedies may include, but are not limited to: Turning back to God, and the family unit, more guns in the "right" hands, the "right" mix of love and discipline.

Well, since the United States prays more than almost any other country, and yet this problem is pretty much unique to us, I'd say that's unlikely.
I think we just don't take mental health seriously enough. People have nowhere to turn.

Oh don't be so ridiculous. Prayer achieves nothing more than making people who do it feel better.

Better gun control is my idea. But you stick to the praying thing and see how far that gets you.

Your kind of logic could also be expressed as the following:
"Are recent shootings proof that people don't fly enough kites?"
