I have no idea where you going with this.
In US the American of African descent do convert to Islam (in or out of jails) because of identity.
In US even in most churches there is separation between Whites and non-whites.
But it is true that even in Mosque there is difference. The Afro mosques have separate patronage than Asian-Arab congregation.
It is not state sponsored or demanded by religion. It is social, the customs and languages are different.
There is ethnic strife between Muslims in Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan. Your statement is true in those regions.
I wish people would do more research before asking questions and please do some research before answering too. You show your ignorance by jumping to conclusions.

islam has a very simple, and to some appealing, theology. it requires one to submit his will to the one and only god worthy of worship, who has no partners nor sons.

submission in islam enforces a strict discipline on the believer. it requires abstinence from foul speech, from vain talk, speaking ill of others, from intoxication, from gambling, sexual relationships outside marriage and other common vices recognized by 'all' religions. however, islam distinguishes itself by providing the structure that allows the disciple to attain good character. i mention just two here. there are five mandatory ritual prayers spread over the length of the day which emphasize both physical and mental purity. when offered in congregation these prayers provide a very strong and tangible sense of brotherhood. the month long fasting, abstinence from food and drink during daylight hours, in ramadan is another disciplining exercise.

the straight forward theology, a sense of brotherhood, coupled with a program to reform appeals to all individuals but especially those who end up in jails.

muslims were and may still be involved with slavery. however, to confuse this with the western practice of slavery is a momentous error. the concept of slavery was never associated with race. islam does not recognize any distinction between black and white, arab and nonarab. thus, there were black african slaves, white caucasian slaves, arab slaves and nonarab asian slaves.

Arab caputred the African because White Christians gave him good money to deliver a slave him on to his ship. There White man chained him and brought him to New World and sold him to another white man like he was an animal. Buyer white man also chained him and forced him to work for only food until he died.

Don't think only Arab is sinner? Black people remember how white men treated the Black slaves. The main reason is that in Islam all humans are equal. The Black Muslims also join in prayers shoulder to shoulder with all other Muslims with out any discrimiation of race, color or nation of origin.
This is what attracts most to Black people in Islam.

Religion & religious believes puts a person back on track.

Normally cowards or who are punished and put in prison have very low believe or understanding of a religion. So no matter which country or religion when they preach or eductae them on the religious principles or teaching they discover a whole new world and they start following it.
If we observe carefully we can't find that generally christianity moves around with the less educated or hard core poor. It is easy to brain wash & pull them in. This is not to blame them but it the fault of ones own religious systems that failed to educate them and lead a noble life.

I reject your premise. The slave trade was mainly conducted by rogue pirates, or Dutchmen who bought captives from tribal battles to work salt mines, silver mines and plantations in the new world when the Native populations which were conquered whilst taking over the Americas started to die out, ., it was win win for the tribes, they got the land of their rivals, and didn't have to fear the return of the rivals.

A more salient question might be "Why do American Blacks adopt the religion of their former masters, who used Christianity to justify the holding of slaves"?

Time was when many traded in slavery.But in the 21st century to talk about it or allude anything to it,exposes that you have nothing serious to think about or accomplish!
Persons frequently pestered by questions of their own or others,try to turn in the direction of their religion to get them clarfied. When they fail, they seek others help.
If one religion gives answers to all their questions and if they feel that by embaracing it they need not have any guilty feelings any more, then they will adopt it!
