My boyfriend was RAISED as a Jehovah's Witness but has been disfellowshipped long before me, but he still believes that the way he was raised to be "The Truth". I am 27 years old and am having a hard time even considering giving up my Holiday celebrations to appease him. I don't want my baby boy to miss out on all the fun family time I experienced as a child.

Can anyone give me verses that say we are not to celebrate Holidays or Birthdays?

I have read the scriptures myself, on more then one occassion. I was wondering if perhaps there was a Witness that could point me in the right direction as to the way they believe. He is the father of my son, and therefore I want to at least attempt to understand things his way. I am not saying that I believe as he does or that I will at any point, I am just curious as to where they get this bit of information.

Why marry someone that has cherished beliefs so radically different from yours?

WHY JWS DON"T CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS AND B/DAYS
Christmas : Jesus was not born on December 25. He was born about October 1, a time of year when shepherds kept their flocks out-of-doors at night. (Luke 2:8-12) Jesus never commanded Christians to celebrate his birth. Rather, he told his disciples to memorialize, or remember, his death. (Luke 22:19, 20) Christmas and its customs come from ancient false religions. The early Christians did not celebrate Christmas , nor do true Christians today.

Birthdays: The only two birthday celebrations spoken of in the Bible were held by persons who did not worship Jehovah. (Genesis 40:20-22; Mark 6:21, 22, 24-27) The early Christians did not celebrate birthdays. The custom of celebrating birthdays comes from ancient false religions. True Christians give gifts and have good times together at other times during the year.

The bible suggests that only royalty celebrated birthdays. I say 'suggests' because Herod had a birthday party in there and the wise men bought gifts for Jesus, but there is no mention of just ordinary folk celebrating birthdays.
Another thing Jehovahs Witnesses say is that Jesus' birthday was definately not on 25th December - and this is right, but still, just one day of the year when everybody raises a toast to Jesus Christ can't be a bad thing.

Your boyfriend would understand, you both went into the relationship knowing about each others faiths, so neither of you should have to change. I'm sure you can work around it.

None of the Bible is actually supposed to be ignored. But I'm sure you have noticed that people will either misrepresent the meaning of the scripture that they are accused ot violating, OR use another scripture in bolster their beliefs. Or, make claims that the original translation of certain words in the Bible would lead you to believe different things than what you are reading from the current translation. Example: The Bible makes in clear in multiple scriptures how Yahweh is supposed to feel about homosexuality. However, there is a site stating that original meaning of those scriptures actually purport the idea that Jesus was fine with homosexuals. However, he wasn't. People just want to believe in a Yahweh, however they don't want to believe in the fact that he would condemn those that were born naturally attracted to the same sex. i have no problem if they just admit that this is what the Bible conveys, but simply saying that just about every translation of the Bible got it wrong on one site just so you can believe that the God you worship was ACTUALLY all loving and wouldn't discriminate is weak.

A lot of the holidays , like Christmas, exalted pagan gods, which eventually were turned to celebrations for Christ.
Christmas is not really Jesus birthday. It is his enemy’s birthday (Saturnalia), and the way they do things at Christmas are almost very similar to the celebration of Jesus’ enemy. God and Jesus would be pleased if we don’t get involved in that. You know the best occasion that we can please Jesus? It is the memorial of his death.

You can have some alternatives though.

Like Job, you can have a special day for both of your kid to enjoy but not on the pagan holidays. Make sure that you give your kid alternatives, go for a vacation or buy him gifts when they do good.

During Christmas, people give gifts to each other, but they do not give gift to Jesus which is to follow him in doing God’s will.

Best to emphasize that the best gift that they can give to Jesus is to follow him and be obedient to him and his Father (John 14:1).

There are none. If your boyfriend was raised Jehovah Witness he has a different religion than you. They do not believe that Jesus is the son of God. They believe that a saying in the old testament about bleeding out an animal before they are eaten (which is still done for safety measures) means that if we get blood transfusions we are 'eating' blood and it is unholy. Please read about the religion to understand. This is NOT a Christian religion.

My answer to you is, why do you worry about celebrating Christmas when you have a more serious problem on your life. You and your "boyfriend" have a child together, are sexually intimate and NOT married. You BOTH are not raising your child in the approval of Almighty God anyway. Correct your major problem first before taking on another that is less serious than fornication.

No, there isn't any. Charles Russell probably made it up. But there are scriptures that say not to become too legalistic and follow laws. That is a law, it's not of grace. God is for family and happy times. God created many festivals for the Jews in the Old Testament because He knows that man needs to have fun sometimes. I hope that helps.

Sometimes --rather than referring to what others say, or any book, including the Bible-- it simply boils down to your own personal priorities. Who's more important to you: your son or your boyfriend?

Your HEART will always lead you to make the right decision.

Peace be with you.

Having a good relationship with God is much more important than appeasing your boyfriend. Jesus said to have communion in rememberance of Him (Mathew). God also warned us not to marry unbelievers as they will turn us away from our faith. It looks like he's already trying to change your love for Christ.

We celebrate JESUS EVERYDAY.

"I am the Way, The Truth, and The Life; no man can come to the Father except through me" - Jesus
