The Pope is simply encouraging international dialog based on good science and cautioning against ultimatums based on dubious science.

If you read the entire article, the Pope says that to further the cause of world peace it was sensible for nations to "choose the path of dialog rather than the path of unilateral decisions" in how to cooperate responsibly on conserving the planet.

With love in Christ.

If you people actually took the time to read that article, all he's really saying is not to get so worked up about global warming. He's not wanting people to go flying off the handle thinking that the world is gonna end tomorrow, and I don't blame him! His comments sound like he's much more concerned about world peace and the plight of all the world's poor, which is fine. I didn't see anywhere in that article that he was denying that GW is being caused by man.

Dang, I guess I was wrong all this time. If the =Pope= says it, well, then, it must be true. After all, Pope Benedict is the world's leading expert on the atmospheric sciences...

But seriously, he didn't do anything of the kind. I think you need to read your article more carefully.

I agree with the Pope.

Comrad Al Gore (mr. I invented the internet) has found another way to make money, he is making millions of $$$$$$'s off of his "inventing global warming".

The democrat/marxist media ONLY broadcasts the lackeys that follow Comrad Gores BS line of crock. Search the internet http://www.google.com for other views from scientists that will never make CNN (Commie News Network) news. There's a lot of good stuff out there, sunspots and normal cyclic weather patterns. About 15 or 20 years ago these same leftists were crying that society was causing another ice age. According to fatass Michael Moore its all our Presidents fault....

a) thats the Daily Mail- possibly the most unreliable source for news in the world. I am surprised the put in a picture of the correct pope.

b) he is the pope 1) what does he know about science , 2) who is he to talk about "dubious ideology"

c) "prophets of doom" , hell anyone ? revelations ?

but he does have a point- simply predicting doom is a total waste of time. Demanding action and PERFORMING those actions is what is needed.

The Pope is no more qualified to render opinions on global warming than Al Gore are Hollywood celebrities.

The Pope didn't do that.

Once again, this has been spun to a ridiculous extreme by the right wing blogs.

Here's what he said:

"Humanity today is rightly concerned about the ecological balance of tomorrow."

"It is important for assessments in this regard to be carried out prudently, in dialogue with experts and people of wisdom, uninhibited by ideological pressure to draw hasty conclusions, and above all with the aim of reaching agreement on a model of sustainable development capable of ensuring the well-being of all while respecting environmental balances.

"If the protection of the environment involves costs, they should be justly distributed, taking due account of the different levels of development of various countries and the need for solidarity with future generations. Prudence does not mean failing to accept responsibilities and postponing decisions; it means being committed to making joint decisions after pondering responsibly the road to be taken."

Efforts to protect the environment should seek "agreement on a model of sustainable development capable of ensuring the well-being of all while respecting environmental balances."

Here's the message for those saying we shouldn't take action:

"Prudence does not mean failing to accept responsibilities and postponing decisions"

Show us one word of "condemnation", or characterization of people as "prophets of doom".

Political hogwash. Yet another example of how desperate the deniers have become. In the face of overwhelming scientific proof, they pull these kind of stunts to distract people.

MIKIRA - Good for you.

It's cool to see that I'm in good company with my views on this supposed crisis.

Edit: I was hoping to find a more legitimate news source running that story, but I can't find one. So I'm going to hold back on feeling any real joy on this, until I see it from another source.

Bob - Thanks!!!

Has any Pope throughout history made a useful declaration?
The problem is though he has a lot of (undue) unfluence. It's frightening how living locked away in the Vatican, wearing silly clothes and travelling around saying your're a messenger of God causes people to believe you.

[edit] I'm in among the Pope lovers, TD away you fools.
