Okay cost friendly the Dyson is not unless you have $500+++ to spend on a vacuum, the rechargeable Shark only $30-$50 but it works great and doesn't clog very much at all. Easy to empty. Here is one I recommend http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6537962 Also another house hold tip use 2-3 fabric sheets in each load, and it repels dog hair also don't be tempted to buy the ones that advertise that since they all do it not just some.

I have problems with my vacuum as well...always having to get new filters! Thinking of getting the new dyson...anyway just wanted to give you a tip...I found that the brush I use on the dogs (black brissle) works wonders on the sofa and in the car as well...takes the hair right off! Also sometimes use fabric softner sheet on sofa..gets hair and smells good! Good Luck!

Yes, the Dyson. Costly up front, but worth EVERY penny!!!! I have a herd of Newfs and we were going through a vacuum each year!!! We have had the Dyson for four years and have SAVED money!!!!! Still works as well as it did the first day!!!

Get a real vacuum. A canister vacuum is best, I think, as it is easier to manuever and can easily get into corners. I have a Sears Kenmore vacuum. Cost is about $200 and up.
If you can afford 2 dogs and a baby, you can afford a decent vacuum. If you don't have cash on hand, open a Sears charge account. Worth it to keep your baby from crawling around in all that mess.

Kirby is the best vacuum ever made. they last forever, and keep your house very clean, especially since you have dogs and a baby. dyson, tears up carpet, and the rest really don't do anything but spit the dirt back out. i forgot, with the Kirby it is 4 vacuums in one, plus a shampooer. they are expensive but worth every penny.

i would suggest the Dyson animal although not necessarily cheap, it will pick up everything and a hand held vacuum for getting up the odd bits

Depends if you have carpeting or smooth floors. You need an upright for the carpet and a canister works better on smooth floor. Did you know that babies raised with pets have a 50% less chance of getting ashtma and allergies. You don't need to keep it too clean :-)

Try brushing the dogs a couple times a week, then they won't shed as much.
