Because you can see a part of themselves that they probably can't see as being judgmental? And are you being judgmental by doing so?

I don't mean do you like it it produces insecuritites about the general state of things of course, what I mean is does it fascinate you, not do you like to watch it happen but does it grab your attention in a entertained manner even if you don't want it to and think what they are saying is completely untrue about this person?

I try to refrain from taking part in activities or conversations that bring negative energy. Gossip is not positive. No one can truly know and understand someones circumstance or reason for their actions. Gossip in my opinion is someone else's interpretation of events, therefore leaves room for misinterpretation. I believe hearing things straight from the source. If it's not coming directly from the parties involved there is room for error and misquoting.

Not really - it makes me very uncomfortable. When I was younger I loved it - it was great fun to me. But, now it makes me wonder if a) are they going to talk about me as soon as I leave and b) what kind of thoughts are going through their mind on a regular basis? Plus, after having experiences of being unfairly criticized, I just feel bad for people who are getting dogged. Usually people just have problems - this is why a lot of people act the way that they do. Even if I agree with the sentiment, I pretty much try not to get involved; I either won't say anything at all if I can't get away, try to find a way to change the subject, or use that time to run to the bathroom or excuse myself from the conversation.

No listening or watching even if not joining in, is the same as doing the gossip. It is more respectful to the person getting trashed to stand up for them even if you don't like them. Gossip hurts and sucks!

I don't enjoy listening to gossip because of the way it makes me feel, even if I'm not actively participating. I often find a way to excuse myself after a while or change the subject. I feel that, by sitting there and listening to it, I'm tacitly endorsing the talk.

It's just as bad. if that person were to walk into the room and hear someone else talking about them, they won't ask if you had anything to say, just assume that you were saying stuff about them also.
You are entertaining the gossip, if you sit in on it, even it you don't participate.

No, not really. It will always come back around, and usually they're whining around wondering what spurred it on.

I respect everyone.
Even who hates me.
There is nothing like LOVE
When you have that respect you will be free from that ~hatred~from your side.
