I am a Career City Carrier of 9 years. Let me start out by saying I have appreciated everything the Post Office has provided me in life. That is the most positive comment I can give. It is the most unethical place to work in the United States. Managers and Post Masters are uneducated and have zero business experience (they were solely promoted for knowing or being friends with someone else in management). Their is little professional training, and intimidation and bullying techniques are the only management styles. These supervisors, managers and post masters couldn't flip burgers in the private industry, and would have multiple lawsuits against them. We have one supervisor that has be caught sexually harassing women and nothing has happened to him.
I have completed a business degree and have multiple years of business experience yet I was told I'm not qualified for promotion. They then proceed to promote the Post Masters girlfriend who was a CCA to regular supervisor.
The union isn't any better. While trying to get promoted they constantly harassed me and threatened to take my carrier position. Apparently the Union thinks you shouldn't be promoted either. Instead of bringing in experience and trying to grow the business, everyone, including the union, is trying to run the post office into the ground.
I have officially accepted another job offer and will be leaving this hell hole shortly. The only way the Post Office survives another 10 years is to fire everyone in its management system and hire based on experience and EDUCATION.

I've never worked for the post office, but I have had a job where I was working six days a week. When I bartended I was working six days a week, some of those days were double shifts, and my daughter wasn't even a year old yet. Not to mention that when I finally did have a day off all I wanted to do was sleep to make up for the week-long schedule of 4 hours of sleep a night.
I do feel your pain.
I finally got to the point where I realized that, yes, the money was great. Yes, it made me feel good to be the "reliable" one at work, that would show up when nobody else would. But I was missing out on precious time with my child that I never got back. And so I cut back my hours. I put my foot down and stuck to it. Sure, my employer eventually stopped asking if I'd work another double, and eventually I got stuck with a couple of the sucky shifts, but I'm glad that I did. Now I stay home with my daughter, who is three, and I'm 37 weeks with another girl. I've learned my lesson and I wish you luck with whatever you need to do to be able to spend more time with your child.

I worked the route about an hour before I realized it was to dangerous and too much responsibility. I almost got rear ended by a careless driver and my car started to over heat. Plus my post master was too wishy washy and did not fill out my expense report in 3 days. So I handed in my resignation. People will not put up with this crap since they can get cheap health insurance through ObamaCare. And minimum wage is starting to slowly increase.

The post office does drain you so bad. Eleven hours days of just walking six day a week, takes a major toll on your body. It wouldn't be bad if we had days off. They tend to think cca's are machines and don't get tired
