farm in Pennsylvania.

California Dairy Industry Facts

California leads the nation in total milk production, producing approximately 19 percent of the nation's milk supply. (CDFA)

California's 2,200 dairy families house 1.5 million milk cows. Approximately one out of every six dairy cows in the US lives in California. (California Dairy Herd Improvement Association - CA DHIA)

The term "Biggest"... is often used such as above,
but a very vague term.
Must be careful.

Does this mean:
The most gallons of milk produced in that state?
The most milking cows?
Can it include milking goats too (tho probably a small%)?

Or the most cows or gallons per capita (residents in that state)?
The percentage of farmers that are dairymen?
The percentage of the state's GNP dairy/all other industries?

Sorry, don't know where NJ ranks off the top of my head.

California is biggest producer, heads of cows and gallons.
(The rBGH thing is another issue.)
It has 30 million people and is a large state,
can brag that they are "The Dairy Capital" and "The Big Cheeze",
however several other industries in CA can brag as well.
e.g. Hollywood, tourism. silicon valley, biotech, aerospace, other agricultural crops....
thus the "hokie Dairy thing" not the main thing to brag about.

Per capita,
I believe Vermont is #2 or #1 for cheeze

Wisconsin is probably #2 or #3 overall,
probably #1 or #2 per capita for milk and cheeze.
It's also a beer state.
But aren't too many other industries there, thus can brag.
With just 5.5 million people.
They have mostly small family farms with less than 150 cows.
While California is mostly large corp farms,
some with 1,000s per farm
Wisconsin residents eat alot of cheese,
but not that much more
the extra is shipped to CA and other states.
Much of the surplus milk is turned into cheeze becuase it stores better, is bought by the US government for the US military, USDA school lunch programs, food stamp, food bank type of programs
That way the price and farmer's profits etc stays at a respectable level regardless of the supply.

i do no longer think of they do any campaigning in greater effective states by using fact lots of the greater effective states are already for one specifc party. case in point, California in many instances votes for the Democrat in presidental elections, so it a provided that CA's electoral vote will straight away circulate in direction of the democratic runner. subsequently, it is not smart for Obama/Clinton to do any campaigning whilst the vote is incredibly lots certain.
