If pharmacists usually work 40 hours per week, why do self-employed pharmacists work about 50 hours per week? Why is that?

Because when you are self-employed you can't just walk out at the end of the day if your work isn't done. You'll be self-UNemployed soon if you do that.

Self employed pharmacists are also typically small business owners. Like any other small business, it's difficult to compete with chain stores who can get products at a cheaper wholesale price due to volume. Therefore, with a smaller profit margin, you need to do what it takes to make up for it. Either work longer hours or more productive business.

Most self-employed people work more than 40 hours per week -- otherwise they would have to pay someone else to work in the pharmacy.
