I've heard they could cause cancer?

ok.. what i have heard about the cancer part is that there was a research done with rats and found out that the rat could get cancer if it ate approxamitly a train car full of aspertame. So as a result a person would have to eat something like a mile long train full of it. So i don't think there's much to worry about there. The caffine is not good for you so try to stick to the caffine free ones. Also I was told by a friend that had to do a science project by taking a chicken bone and leaving it in soda over night, and as a result by morning - it was gone! So you can imagine what it does to your teeth and everything on your insides. Although there are a lot of bad things about it I drink more than i should on a daily basis.

I once heard or read that the amount of test substance given to animals is much more than what the human would consume. Also, I'm no biologist, but I would guess that a rat's physiology is much different than a human's. I do know that I'm not a poor lab rat.

What's "healthy" about them? They're still filled with fake stuff that the body doesn't recognize. I wasn't keen on soda before reading the following article. Before my pregnancy, I had one, maybe two diet colas a day. upon learning of my pregnancy, I switched to caffeine free diet cola and diet lemon lime (which I pulled out only when my heartburn was unbearable and I was low, or out of soy milk). Even then, it was maybe a soda a week. I don't miss it.

While we've recent;y had a discussion on whether or not diet soda is "good", my husband still has two diet sodas a day.

I've also heard that cola can suck calcium out of the body. Yay.

The thing in diet drinks is artificial sweetner that contains asparatame, this is found in nutrasweet/equal as well. It has been linked to cancer in rats, and they aren't too sure about humans yet because there havn't been many studies, and it hasn't really been around long enough to be sure. The thing is it might not cause cancer itself, but maybe increase your chances at a high enough dose. But my theory is to always eat/drink the real stuff in moderation, you can't go wrong with that! If you need a good natural sweetener use Stevia.

no pop not even diet pop - lately studies have been showing that artificial sugars are making it hard for our bodies to shed those extra pounds and stimulate hunger

ok yes cancer is always a worry, but the above reason alone has been enough to keep me away from diet & regular pop for years

No, they're not good for you. All soda is not good for you, which sucks, but it's true.

Cheers
