I was starting to learn some foreign languages before the internet has been invented. Of course we can never get ready with learning. And I must say that this forum is really not the place to learn good German. The majority of askers, and answerers do struggle with their "mother language", and too many of them do it in a miserable way - it's the same as in all the English spoken sections.
Perhaps you will be astonished that I have always had a high opinion of comics. Not the cheap ones, but the "classics". The pictures are very helpful to understand the context. They are written in a fresh everyday language full of idioms, but proper, and in a good style.
And so there are lots of good books for children, written by mature authors, whom every adult person can learn from how to be a human with heart and soul. All the books of Astrid Lindgren have been translated into German, and they are just an example. In our times you can find and order any kind of book from everywhere on the web.
