I really couldn't choose between the two breeds. I really like both breeds. I would probably pick the one best suited for your lifestyle and later on down the road, get the other one too. Mastiffs are such wonderful breeds. A few of my family members are owners of several different mastiff breeds. Just get the one that is best suited for your life and what the dog can offer you and vice verse. Good luck in whichever you choose.

I would also have to recommend adoption/rescuing before buying a dog. Having volunteered at our local humane society for several years, I can tell you that those big dogs are some of the most common we got in and hardest to adopt out. Also, if your local shelter doesn't have any, check online for some mastiff or bullmastiff rescue groups. By supporting a rescue group, you're supporting dogs being fostered in a home environment, receiving training, rehabilitation, and love. This helps free space in shelters so they can handle emergencies. I'm sure you'll make the right choice, and enjoy your new furbaby when you get it!

Well, I might NEVER purchase from a puppy retailer as many puppy shops use dog generators. That stated, the satisfactory methods to get a Dog is from a respectable breeder or Adopt from a Shelter. I don't have any drawback with both procedure however, I might alternatively retailer the cash and undertake that spend a scrundle of cash on a natural breed puppy from a breeder. Also, you'll suppose well approximately giving a Dog a moment hazard for a well dwelling.

I agree that it is optimal to rescue/adopt, so to that end check to see if there is a Mastiff rescue in your area (or surrounding states).
When I got divorced I had to give up my Mastiff b/c I knew that I did not have the resources to provide for him. The Mastiff rescue in Florida was great! They took him in and found him a great foster home who eventually adopted him.
As far as which breed--it depends on what characteristics you are looking for. Try the AKC web-site to see about the breeds differences.
Agree that both are BIG dogs, drool a lot and shed pounds of fur! Also, big dogs = bigger vet bills, food bills, and poop to clean up.
All that said, my Max (the Mastiff) was such a great big teddy bear--he literally thought that he was lap dog (at least I assume that he thought that b/c he would always climb right up on my lap like he belonged there).
Do some research in the breeds and local rescue organizations.

I have a male bullmastiff and he is the best dog ever but not all dogs are the same they all have different temperments, the one I have is very calm, great with people and animals, I laugh at Bullmastiff's being guard dogs, mine runs up to the door to greet everyone practically taking his leash with him so he could get them to take him for a walk, so hopefully his looks alone will deter a intruder, ha ha ha. Great dogs, nothing but giant lapdogs :)

Male or female either dog. All good choices. Just keep in mind they are cute as anything as pups but get very big and eat massive amounts of food. I would try shelters first you could get it a lot cheaper and save a dogs life. I had a Male Bullmastiff and he was great very loving and friendly but also very protective never had to lock my doors when I went out. LOL But he ate me out of house and home. Well worth it.

I have a full-blooded German Shepherd and Doberman. I rescued them both. I have vowed to never buy a dog ever again. Believe it or not but I know of a gorgeous mastiff male who needed a home and just got adopted. Save your money and go to the shelter.

We have 3 female dogs all different breeds, one is a mastiff cross and all are used for hunting. Females tend to be better with kids and are less territorial.
