I have a 3 month old boxer, and I've decided to use a prong collar because he is pulling so hard on the leash that he is hurting himself. I just want to know is if you think he is to young. I will say that he is getting better at walking on a regular collar and leash, it's just when we get in an area that he is used to he justs starts pulling. I think its more of him being scared than anything. Suggestions please.

FAR TOO YOUNG!!!

But your lucky as he is so young you can stop this behaviour before it sets in for good. I dont agree with prong collars, but I know how you feel with a dog pulling, I have a 2 year old, very strong HYPERACTIVE Border Collie who pulls all the time.

Try what I did, in the middle of your walk, every so often say "back" and without warning turn your back and walk in the opposite direction. The first couple of times you might get a bit tangled, but after a while every time you say it your dog will stop and expect you to turn round. This gives you time to get control of the lead. WOrked for me!

Good luck chick.xx

i also have a boxer who is full grown

i would NEVER use a prong collar those things are evil and cruel

try an extension leash so he has a little more ability to run but you will have better control of how far he is from you

just let him pull and hurt himself he'll figure it out that way with less pain
and it's not fear that's getting him to do it it's excitement why would he be afraid of the area you are used to
if he is maybe you should stop going there

come on you want to use a prong collar that stabs him in the neck so that he wont get hurt when he pulls OMG

Why is this in the pregnancy and parenting section? Wouldn't you get better answers in the pet section?

But anyway, i think that 3 months is too young for any dog to have a prong collar. You just need to get him accustomed to walking. Let him know that you are the leader... but don't use a prong collar just yet.

My goodness, I certainly hope you're talking about a dog! I'd hate to see someone walking down the street with a prong collar on her toddler! =)

I think this would be better off in the Pets section.

But have you tried a leader? It goes around the muzzle and when you pull it pulls the dogs head down thereby stopping him from what he is doing.

Use a harness instead.
